Women's basketball assistant resigns for family reasons

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 6:26 AM

Assistant coach Tamika Raymond announced that she is leaving the Ohio State women's basketball program after five seasons so that her husband can pursue a business opportunity in Irving, Texas.
"I thought I'd be at Ohio State for the next 30 years of my life," said Raymond, who joined the staff in 2003 and also is a forward for the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. "I learned so much from coach (Jim) Foster. He gave me an opportunity at 22 that nobody else would have given me."

At first, Tamika Raymond (then Williams) and her Minnesota Lynx teammates didn't know Ben Raymond's name. They called him Green Eyes.
Spotted around the Minneapolis social scene, Raymond was a favorite of the Lynx players, including Williams.
"He was 6-5 and a nice-looking guy," she said. "Toward the end of the season, he asked some of my teammates about me. That was a big move."

Sanders started for the Vikings as a freshman. She played in only 13 games this past season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn knee ligament. She averaged eight points per game.

Kansas, N. Carolina Make Grades, Too

By MICHAEL MAROT

INDIANAPOLIS ? Kansas and North Carolina are regulars at the top of college basketball polls. They were recognized on another list Thursday.
The men's teams at the two national powers, which met in the Final Four earlier this month, were included among 712 squads singled out by the NCAA for their solid academic performance. Although the total number of teams publicly recognized dropped from 839 last year, 192 schools had at least one team finish among the top 10 percent of all schools in their sport.

Perennial women's basketball powers Ohio State and Stanford also made the list.
Overall, 11.4 percent of the 6,272 teams were honored. The NCAA recognizes more than 10 percent in a sport if more teams produce a perfect score.

I have always said that even though I am not a great admirer of Foster's coaching philosophy he always made sure that his players got good grades and graduated. I almost think that is his number one priority which isn't all bad.

Now I am beginning to wonder why she did leave. The only thought that I have is that Kansas is closer to Texas but is that the real reason she left:huh:

She left because of her husband...Fact...

Her sister is supposed to fill one of the spots open on the staff...

And Kelley Meury who was rumored as being in the running for the Toledo job is staying put...Good news...

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Pickerington Central star selects Ohio State

Monday, May 19, 2008 10:59 PM
By Jim Massie

The Columbus Dispatch
Emilee Harmon, a heavily recruited junior post player at Pickerington Central, informed Ohio State women's basketball coach Jim Foster today that she would join the 2009 recruiting class. "It just came down to the fact that I grew up here, this is where I'm from, my family and friends are here," Harmon said. "And Ohio State has the full package academically and athletically."
A first team All-Ohio selection this past season, Harmon averaged 18.8 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers (21-4). HoopGurlz.com ranks Harmon as the 23rd-best prospect in the nation. She also recently was invited to try out for the U.S. team for the upcoming FIBA Under-18 world championships.
Harmon, 6 feet 2, said she pared her list to 10 schools two months ago and was looking closely at Duke, Purdue, Notre Dame and Stanford until recently.
