Wow, I like that draw. C'mon ladies bring back the tourney trophy too, it might salvage a no. 1 seed.... :oh:

Yep, not to look ahead too much, but there's no reason we shouldn't be in the finals. Minnesota might have an outside shot at MSU, but it certainly seems like the top 3 teams won't lose to anyone but each other.

Congrats to Jessica Davenport on being named Big Ten POY for the third straight year, an unprecedented feat.

Congrats to Coach Jim Foster on being named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third straight season.

And congrats to Brandie Hoskins, who was named First Team All-Big Ten by the media, despite having a season-ending injury on February 8th.

Star Allen was named to the second team All-Big Ten by the media.

Marscilla Packer was named to the third team All-Big Ten by both the media and coaches.

OSU women have little to gain in Big Ten tourney

With a good NCAA seed in hand, Buckeyes must beat rivals again

COLUMBUS ? For the past two months, No. 5 Ohio State has proven itself to be the best women's basketball team in the Big Ten.
Now the Buckeyes get to prove it all over again.

Senior Brandie Hoskins, sidelined by season-ending surgery for a torn left Achil les' tendon, was named first team all- Big Ten by the media and second team by the coaches. Sophomore Star Allen was named second team by the media and honorable mention by the coaches. Junior Marscilla Packer was named third team by both groups. Iowa's Megan Skouby, a sophomore from Mentor, earned an honorable mention.

I follow the lady's team mostly through the Internet and when they are on TV. Having said that, I can't see the team going very deep into the tournament for the same reason as last year. They lack a consistent outside threat. I thought maybe Trieblock was going to bring that when she came from UCLA but I have not seen it. Packer runs hot and cold and even when Hoskins was playing she did not bring the consistent threat.

I was talking to a guy last night when the Lady's Bucks were brought up and then mentioned the fact about a consistent outside shooter. He told me that Foster recruited "well-rounded" players rather than just a player who was only good at one facet of the game.

Hopefully, one of the recruits from Illinois will bring in outside threat to the team next year because they seem to always have a dominant post player.

As much as I loved watching Brandie's style of play and leadership, "consistent outside threat" certainly wouldn't be a way I'd describe her either. :) Then again, she's a forward - we don't expect Othello Hunter to carry the men's team from the three-point line.

I don't know if you've had the chance to see a game recently, but Trebilcock has really stepped up her game since Brandie went down to injury. I think the biggest asset Ashlee brings to the team is her ability to create with the ball - one of our biggest issues, in my opinion. When teams can just assume that we're going to dump it inside or take a spot-up three, we're easy to defend.

At the risk of sounding cliched, how far we go in the tournament will greatly depend on our draw. If we run into an outstanding defensive team (See: Rutgers '05, BC '06), we'll have some issues, because teams like that have been able to deny us our inside game. Our other problem has been teams with a center taller than Davenport. (See: LSU, MSU)

OHIO STATE WOMEN?S BASKETBALL
Buckeyes aiming to make long run

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

INDIANAPOLIS ? Ohio State center Jessica Davenport has experienced the perils of the postseason enough times to know each game is as potentially dangerous as a Nile River crossing patrolled by crocodiles. The trick is to not play the part of the unsuspecting wildebeest. While the Buckeyes (26-2) are a lock for an NCAA Tournament berth, the one-and-out aspect of the postseason was on everyone?s minds as the players prepared to open defense of their Big Ten Tournament title at 6 tonight in Conseco Fieldhouse against Indiana (18-12).

Here's the women's tournament bracket. I'm not sure why the #1 seed doesn't get the longer rest between games like on the men's side. There is a day off on Saturday, but if the #1 and #2 both win on Sunday, the #2 seed gets the longer rest before the Monday final.

tOSU vs Indiana - 6 pm Eastern tonight

Assuming they win...

tOSU vs Ilinois-Penn St. winner - 7:30 pm Eastern Sunday (approx.)

Final game - 7 pm Eastern Monday

Packer got hurt early in the second half. No word on the severity of the injury. It looks like a left ankle, she had to be helped off the court and did not put any pressure on it. She did come back out of the locker room later on with a boot on and was walking around with no assistance. Hopefully it's nothing more than a mild ankle sprain. Luckily for us the women's tournament takes tomorrow off and we don't play until 7:30 on Sunday night so she'll get about two full days rest.

Women's basketball Ohio State 72, Indiana 60

Injuries don't stop Buckeyes

Guard Marscilla Packer hurts ankle, leaves game

From staff and wire reports

INDIANAPOLIS - Three-time Big Ten player of the year Jessica Davenport scored 30 points, and forward Star Allen had 15 to help No. 5 Ohio State overcome backcourt injuries and beat Indiana 72-60 in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals Friday night.
Ohio State (27-2), the three-time regular-season champion and defending tournament champ, lost all-conference guard Brandie Hoskins for the season because of a torn left Achilles' tendon last month.
