Lady Bucks Basketball Thread

MolGenBuckeye;755454; said:
Well, I tried...

I think losing Brandie hurt us today. We didn't seem like we knew what to do in the last few minutes - some bad shots and turnovers. Another senior certainly would have helped out there.

That said, today was just one of those days where the threes weren't falling, and it could have gone either way. I think most days we win that one. Now the last two games are critical, so we can get the number 1 seed in the B10 tourney, and let Purdue and MSU duke it out in the semis.

As JCOSU said, I was also at the game (in the nose-bleed section) and I agree with your sentiments... the Lady Bucks could not hit an outside shot to save their lives... I believe they ended up 2-19 for the game from behind the 3 point line and only scored 8 points in the last 8 minutes. MSU went into a zone the entire second half and that seemed to shut down our inside game... Davenport and Allen didn't get into any kind of rhythm.

The last two games are very winnable and they should go into the Big10 tournament with the #1 seed and outright regular season championship... unfortunately, as BB73 said, their #1 seed in the NCAA tournament just slipped through their hands. But if this loss wakes them up then it is a good thing.

Go Bucks, beat Penn State!

Hoskins dreams of WNBA, coaching from OSU's bench

Torn Achilles tendon ends her playing time, but the C-J grad still contributes to Buckeyes' success.

COLUMBUS ? She's now part coach and part cheerleader, but she's still all Brandie.
"I'm how I was when I was playing ? talking on the court," Ohio State senior guard Brandie Hoskins said Wednesday. "But you have to do it from the sidelines. I'd rather be out there talking."

LASTING LEGACY

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

They lived together that first year in a freshmen dorm at Ohio State, three teenage girls crazy for basketball and brimming with thoughts of what college would be like.
Democracy of a sort ruled in the room. Jessica Davenport, the 6-foot-5 center, received the single bed by a 2-0 vote. Stephanie Blanton, the 5-11 forward, took the bottom of the bunk bed. Brandie Hoskins, the 5-9 guard, was pointed to the ladder and the top bunk.
"Jess obviously wasn?t going to be in a bunk bed," Blanton explained. "Her feet hung off the bed. She needed more room. I didn?t want the top bunk, and Brandie was the last one to show up. So she was stuck with it."

No whine in Brandie about ill-fated ending

Brandie Hoskins doesn?t have the words to explain how much she wants to play for the Ohio State women?s basketball team in the final regularseason home game tonight in Value City Arena.
The senior guard will be on crutches for the opening tip against Penn State. She suffered a torn left Achilles? tendon in a game against Minnesota two weeks ago. The injury, her second Achilles? tear in 11 months, changed Hoskins from a probable WNBA draft pick to a patient facing long hours of rehabilitation.
"Sitting on the bench, you feel a little helpless," Hoskins said. "I?ll be yelling, though. My teammates probably will get tired of hearing me yell."

Congrats to the Buckeye Women's Basketball team, who have clinched at least a share of their third straight Big Ten Championship on Senior Night!

I got to watch them on Comcast in Chicago tonight.

26 points and 7 rebounds for Jessica Davenport in her last home game. Per the TV announcer, Allen was 8 of 9, and Trebilcock was 7 of 8.

Here's wishing them the best at TSUN in their last regular season game on Sunday, in order to win the league title outright.

Bucks roll to third conference title

Friday, February 23, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus -- How do you judge the third straight Big Ten wom en's basketball championship locked up by Ohio State on Thursday night?
Ohio State's football team -- Jim Tressel, his coaches and three rows of players -- sat behind the basket at Value City Arena for Ohio State's 78-61 over Penn State. The football program hasn't won three straight Big Ten titles since finishing a run of six straight in 1977.
The shadow of Greg Oden and the men's team still lingered in the arena after their win over the Nittany Lions on Wednesday night. Ohio State men's basketball hasn't won three straight Big Ten titles since a run of five titles ended with the 1963-64 season.

Buckeyes claim share of Big Ten
Friday, February 23, 2007
By RUSTY MILLER
AP Sports Writer

COLUMBUS Penn State Coach Rene Portland acted as if she were disgusted with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

"You've got a share of the Big Ten title, you've got the No. 1 seed (in the conference tournament) and you're in the NCAA tournament," Portland said with a smile. "What else do you guys want? You're greedy."

Jessica Davenport scored 26 points and Ashlee Trebilcock had 17 to help No. 5 Ohio State beat Penn State 78-61 Thursday night to clinch at least a share of its third Big Ten title in a row.

The Buckeyes (25-2, 14-1) lead Purdue by a game heading into their regular-season finale at Michigan on Sunday.

Way to send the seniors out, ladies. I was happy to see a fairly decent crowd there again, though not nearly as many as the MSU game.

Star Allen and Ashlee Trebilcock couldn't miss. That's correct that they went 8/9 and 7/8, respectively.

Thanks to MSU's loss to Illinois (letdown, anyone?), we wrapped up the #1 seed in the B10 tourney, too.

RENEE SAUER DISPATCH Ohio State?s Jessica Davenport works against Penn State?s Charity Renfro during the second half. Davenport scored 26 points.
The last home game for the three seniors on the Ohio State women?s basketball team ended on a perfect note last night in Value City Arena.
"Walking out there with your parents in front of the crowd is a great feeling," senior forward Stephanie Blanton said. "Topping it off with a Big Ten co-championship is great. And winning your last game at home is the way to go out."
