Buckeyes' big run turns away Badgers

Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. - Ohio State owns the Big Ten. Jessica Davenport scored 16 points, Brandie Hoskins added 15 and the fifth-ranked Buckeyes beat Wisconsin 74-51 on Thursday night for their 22nd consecutive conference victory.
"They're just solid from top to bottom, there's no question about it," Wisconsin coach Lisa Stone said. "They are a team that you can play with for a little while, but they are methodical in what they do and they do it well. They hang along long enough just to keep sticking it to you."

MADISON, Wis. ? Baby, it was cold outside the Kohl Center last night, but Old Man Winter had nothing on the Arctic freeze that wrapped its arms around the Wisconsin women?s basketball team and never let go. On an evening when the Badgers couldn?t rent a jump shot or buy a layup, Ohio State rolled to a 74-51 victory behind a great floor game from senior guard Brandie Hoskins.

In the first half of a game Nov. 25 against Cornell, Stephanie Blanton landed hard enough on the court in St. John Arena to stay down. The painful moment seemed odd to anyone who had ever seen the Ohio State senior play basketball. Even Blanton shook her head yesterday at its mention.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Freshmen point guards Maria Moeller and Shavelle Little didn?t walk the red carpet Tuesday to reach their seats for the premiere of the film that Ohio State coach Jim Foster wanted them to watch. Blood-shot eyes probably were the only red things in the room.
"We were in the office at 8 o?clock (Tuesday) morning," Foster said. "Tea time with coach. We had a good session. Film is a great teacher. I think it can be overused and overanalyzed. But when we do use it, there are some pretty valid teaching points."

C-J's Hoskins leads OSU past Indiana

Associated Press

Friday, January 26, 2007

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State coach Jim Foster doesn't want to talk about where his team might be in March. He's more concerned about Monday.
Brandie Hoskins scored 19 points and seemed to make all the clutch baskets to lead No. 5 Ohio State past Indiana 72-62 Thursday night.

Hoskins carries OSU to best start

Columbus -- Brandie Hos kins scored 19 points and seemed to make all the clutch baskets to lead No. 5 Ohio State past Indiana, 72-62, in women's college basketball Thursday night.
Hoskins led the way as the Buckeyes took control late in the first half and then she hit several big shots down the stretch to help Ohio State (18-1, 7-0 Big Ten) clinch the school's best start, exceeding the previous mark of 17-1 in 1973-74 on the way to an 18-2 season.
"That's a great accomplishment, but the worst thing we can do is to be happy with it," Hoskins said.

Buckeyes Grind Out Record-Setting Win Over Hoosiers
By John Porentas
Pesky Indiana (13-8, 2-6 Big Ten) hung with the Buckeyes as best they could but could not overcome a 17-6 Ohio State (18-1, 7-0 Big Ten) blitz at the end of the first half that helped OSU claim a 72-62 win at the Value City Arena in front of a crowd of 4,037 on a wintry Tuesday night in Columbus.
The Hoosiers never held a lead in the game and the Buckeye controlled the game most the way, but simply could not distance themselves from the gritty Hoosiers.

Last night wasn't the prettiest win, but it still counts. I've never seen so many held ball situations in one game.

Maria Moeller's shot is really improving as the season goes along. Teams are going to have to start respecting her on the outside before long.

</IMG> OSU?s Jessica Davenport, right, and Indiana?s Whitney Thomas chase a loose ball.

At the end of a Big Ten game against Indiana last night in Value City Arena, Ohio State center Jessica Davenport had the weary look of someone who had spent the evening wrestling with an octopus designed by the imagination of Jules Verne.
Whenever the two-time All-American touched the basketball, the Hoosiers wrapped three players around her and dared the rest of the Buckeyes to beat them. The strategy contained Davenport but couldn?t stop Ohio State from pulling out a 72-62 victory in front of 4,037 fans.
