Kristina Johnson (OSU President)

President Donald Trump said he spoke with Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren on Tuesday morning about the possibility of reinstating the conference's fall football season immediately. Trump called the conversation “very productive.”

“I think it was very productive about getting Big Ten playing again, immediately,” Trump told Fox News. “Let's see what happens. He's a great guy, it's a great conference, tremendous teams, and we're pushing very hard.”

“I think they want to play and the fans want to see it and the players have a lot at stake including possibly playing in the NFL – you have a lot of great players in that conference,” Trump said. “So we had a very good conversation, very productive and maybe we'll be very nicely surprised. They had it closed up, and I think they'd like to see it open, along with a lot of other football that's being played right now.”

“We’ve learned about how we can have what’s called a clean field,” Johnson said. Players on the field that are negative, that can play, that we can be playing football. And we’re working through that process. We’re working with the Big Ten, we’re working with the commissioner, to try and get in place those medical protocols, where we can keep our students safe. And that’s really what it comes down to. We want to make sure that our athletes get a shot. Because they’ve worked really hard. And they deserve a shot to play. At the same time, we want to make sure that they’re safe. So we’re doing our work. We’ll come back, and I’m very hopeful that we’ll be playing football this fall.”

Would do it for free and without any qualifications if it meant football and a chance for CFP.

Ohio State isn’t ready to give up the fight for a fall football season just yet.

Add the president of the university to the list of Buckeyes still seeing a possibility of a fall season for Ohio State and the rest of the Big Ten. In an interview with NBC4 in Columbus, Dr. Kristina Johnson said she can still see a path to playing a football season in the fall.

“We want to make sure our athletes get a shot because they’ve worked really hard and they deserve a shot to play,” Dr. Johnson told NBC4. “At the same time, we want to make sure that they’re safe, so we’re doing our work, we’ll come back and I’m very hopeful that we’ll be playing football this fall.”

Dr. Johnson — one of three Big Ten presidents who voted not to postpone the fall season — said the presidents are working with the league and medical personnel to put proper protocols in place. She stressed the safety of student athletes, while making sure it’s known that Ohio State wants to play. And the Buckeyes want to play in the fall.

“Fall is a long period of time,” she said. “Fall goes until Dec. 20. I see a path to football.”

Playing football "in the fall" could also mean the first games starts just prior to Dec 20, meaning the rest of the season runs through February. I'm not saying that's what she means, but we all know how those in "political" positions can say things in a manner that flat covers their asses.
