Kiyaunta Goodwin (OL Kentucky, transfer to Florida)

OSU has hosted some pretty big OL prospects the past few weeks, and reportedly is only looking at taking three.

The OL numbers are going to be tight in the class (even if they bump the number to four), and I can see the coaches not wanting to gamble on a kid who might not have the intangibles they are looking for.

3 seems awfully low. Not disputing your info, just seems surprising. Especially if they aren't all OT's

I’ve heard 3 also. My guess is the staff feels 4 is an ideal OL class size. So 16 over 4 years. The ‘19 class was 4, the ‘20 class was 6, ‘21 class was 3, so 3 in the ‘22 class would be 16 over 4 classes.

I’m sure they feel that if there’s a need, they can always attack the portal, like they did with Jonah Jackson.

I'm a little confused how we went from desperately needing him to not having room for him.
Because the folks who desperately needed him are message board junkies like us.

The guys who decide who gets in are coaches.

IMO OL more than any other position is about work ethic. That doesn't necessarily correlate to height and weight.

I don't know anything OL play, but Goodwin's body transformation and commitment to his body over the last couple years screams work ethic to me.

Then why were the coaches after him so hard?

Because they questioned his work ethic?

They wanted him, swung and missed. Let's not be the DFBIA and just deal with it.

Birm has been very clear that the coaches ended their pursuit of Goodwin after he didn’t wait to take visits before committing to Kentucky days before things opened up.

It’s possible that series of events, however they went down, revealed something to the coaches that caused them to reevaluate the situation and their desire to have him in the class.

I find Birm to be infinitely more reliable than any insider DFBIA has manipulating their expectations, and I don’t think paying attention to his comments on the recruitment is equivalent to DFBIA.

You don’t think the coaches could and would swing hard at Kentucky for the next however-many-months if they felt like it?

A five-star prospect in the 2022 class ranked No. 33 overall, No. 5 among offensive tackles and No. 1 in the state of Indiana on the independent 247Sports hierarchy, Goodwin appeared in 11 games as a true freshman last season but received limited reps along the Wildcats' offensive front, playing only at the end of blowout wins over Miami (Ohio) and Youngstown State. The bulk of the towering lineman's playing time came as a blocker on special teams.

Just sayin': You have to wonder....Did he actually "sour" on Kentucky or did Florida just offer more NIL money?
