What he really meant was: "If you can't beat them join them, I just want to win a NBA Championship"

Just because Lebron came back and won Cleveland a title doesn't mean I change my opinion of his decision to leave for Miami... I stand by what I said the first time he left... total coward move. Chasing titles in your prime is lame lame lame. And the only way Lebron was able to cement his legacy was to come back and prove he could do it in Cleveland.

But this is SO MUCH WORSE. The Thunder had the Warriors on the ropes and it was Durant who failed to deliver the knockout punch. So he leaves for the team that exposed him, a team that already won a title without him, and who won 73 games without him. I don't care how many points or rebounds or whatever he averages in Golden State. He's going for the most hollow championship ring in sports history.

Lost all respect for him as a competitor.

Right here is the old school mentality these kids lack. Clearly the difference is that some of us have the respect for competition in and of itself, while others just want to have that title regardless of how it was earned.

In essence a microcosm of the world today. As I remember my grandfather (RIP) once told me - "There is something to be said about the man that takes the easy way out".

It's total entitlement. Durant knows he's a great player and he believes he deserves to win a title along with other great players rather than beating those other great players. I just can't look at a Warriors title next year like I do for ordinary championships. Durant will have to most pointless title ring any superstar has ever had.

Well, that all assumes it goes anything like they think it will.

Now, I'm gonna preface this by saying I think the Warriors did the "right thing" in that the team was going to look a lot different going into next year than it has the last 2 no matter what they did. This didn't occur in a vaccum, so, do you spend a lot of money on a lot of different guys that are lesser players or do you spend less on one guy that you know is awesome? So, I think it was a no brainer. No brainers don't make you better when you know you were gonna suffer in some way regardless.

But, than said, they can scrap strength in numbers, and they go from two really amazing perimeter scorers plus you not knowing where you're gonna get hurt to pretty much knowing where you're gonna get hurt. Are they pretty scary places? Yep. But, as has been mentioned, there's only 1 ball. Plus, Durant for all the ways he scores is a outside in player, so I guess we're doubling down on jump shooting really. Draymond gonna be tired, I'll say that.

Excuse me for saying so, but this sounds a lot like what an Iowa fan would say to a 5-star who picks the Buckeyes over the Hawks.

Aside from the fact that having one or two great players on a football team isn't enough to sustain a season and cycles of success. Also taking into account the size of rosters in football, plus a 5 star recruit isn't a lock to be a major contributor ( Jam-O, Lawrence Wilson, Taurian Washington, etc etc)

This is a proven commodity. A top 5 player in the world joining several other top 5-10 players in a game where a team can receive a significant carry from just one man.

Pardon me for saying it is not a good comparison.

It's really nothing like that because football is a totally different sport, especially at the college level. The NBA and the legacy of a star in that league is generally dependent on what they do on the biggest stage against the other great players in the league. If they all join up, it makes it hard to judge.

It's kind of ironic that this same individualized assessment at the NBA level is probably what caused Durant to jump ship. He didn't want to become Barkley, Ewing, or Malone. And yet, by chasing a title this way, he'll never be Magic, Larry, Isaiah, Jordan, Olajuwon, or Kobe.

And if they don't win next year.... YIKES! That's a legacy killer.

But he's a great player. No one denies that. Joining a team that has already won 73 games and a title though... hard to say winning a title would have had anything to do with HIS greatness. And so it would impossible to credit him as an individual for having been a part of it.

The Warriors are going to be fine depth-wise... next year. They just signed Zaza and David West, brought back Livingston, and they still have Iggy under contract. They'll be the most dominating offensive team the league has ever seen. Poor Draymond is going to have to guard that paint like Hodor held that door though. 'Cause ain't nobody else there to help him.

The year after could be more difficult. Curry's contract is up and he, of course, deserves the max. Durant will probably decline his option and renegotiate under the new cap rules. They have Klay signed through 2019 and Draymond through 2020. Their core will still be there but they'll have serious depth issues.
