The senality aside my problem with KJ has always revolved around his open dislike of Woody and OSU in general. He was heard to say after a game in Columbus one time "Lets get out of here, I can't stand the smell" or something to that effect.

Comibine that with his scUM loving bullshit and I have little to no use for the fucker. His "legend" status means exactly dick to me.

The fact he has become a cartoon charachter for the whole world to see is a fitting end in my book.

announcers

here's my 2cents:

How can you not like Fouts a little bit after watching Water Boy??
He basically makes fun of himself.

I'm old enough to remember Curt Gowdy calling (Ohio State split end) Bruce Jankowski "Janowicz" in the 69 Rose Bowl. Of course, the entire game he could not tell where the ball was, but that was due to Kern's excellent handiwork and bootlegging.

Back in the 60s (like the 1968 final four run) we used to get tired of Jimmy Crum (How about That!!!! It's a Real Barn Burner!!!!) on channel 4, so we would turn down the TV sound and listen to Martin Petry on WMNI AM. He was a scream!

The only thing that really bugs me about Keith Jackson is that he "retired" about 6 years ago! then, they brought him back to do an "occasional" West Coast game. Holy crap, aren't there enough good announcers (please no Lee Corso) out there that we don't need poor old KJ??

I'd like to kick Keels every time he says "absotively". Keels, buddy, it's not funny anymore!

And finally, I miss Woody's TV show, where he would bring out two or three of his players and all they were allowed to say was "Yes, coach" "No, coach" "That's right, coach" or (Champ Henson), "I saw the goal line pass underneath me, coach!".

Musberger doesn't bother me, and I actually think Danielson likes our program.
Peace out! Go Bucks

How about "Ken Dorsey is 38-1 as a starter. He is the cool dude who drives this bus." Umm... I don't know about you but the phrase "cool dude who drives this bus" hasn't been used since the 70's. I envision Ken Dorsey driving a VW peace bus. The only phrase that comes to mind is "wrong".

odd, he fell to the ground all peaceful like for will smith directly after mr. jackson's comment... personally i thought the combination of the comment and the play after was halarious.

2005 Rose Bowl, 4th quarter, talking about Vince Young:

Dan Fouts: "Veni, Vidi, Vici"
KJ: "Ah yes, how sweet the wine"

That was classic.

I remember hearing that and pictured my Latin teacher from high school yelling at him like she did me. I dunno Dan Fouts would say "I came, I saw, I conquered." He should've said "Venit, Vidit, Vicit." Thought I would lay some knowledge on all of you.

When I was younger, (only 26 now) Kieth Jackson was college football.

The quotes I will always remember are...

"On the banks of the Olentangy"- referring to The 'Shoe....
and...

"Whoa Nelly", of course.

That being said, he is far past his prime, time to "Hang it up".
I don't think that I've ever heard him get the name of the Olentangy right. He always added extra letters, or just said the ones that were there incorrectly.

Sorry if one of the most well-known and respected (although now over-the-hill) sports announcers of all time doesn't customize his verbiage to the under-25 crowd.

Dinner must be ready, 'cuz I just heard "Dinnnng!"

No one under the age of 40 is going to be very familiar with 70s sayings like "He's the cool dude who drives this bus," or whatever. But I think it adds to the flavor of the game to have a slightly daffy older guy announcing. It's not like I need the announcers to tell me what's going on in front of my eyes. But if someone can add some color to the game, and yes, even some insanity, then I'm all for it. I still like Keith Jackson, and until his voice stops sounding distinctive in a good way, I say he should keep doing what he's doing.

JoPa and Jackson - fingernails on a blackboard

apparently you dont remember when joe pa used to do the game...

Just Tivo'd the OSU-scUM game from 1974 recently - it was on ESPN Classic. JoPa and Keith did the game. JoPa was so bad he was good. Well, at least entertaining. I honestly don't think JoPa could see from the pressbox to the field with those Coke bottles he wears. At least as an announcer he doesn't like to hear himself talk, unlike a former Orygun QB we won't mention any further, who seems to need to speak after every, EVERY play.

I was in college in the late 70's so I grew up listening to Jackson. Loved it when he did a Nebraska-Oklahoma game. Every play, I could hear his call as the FB would "bust it up inside off right guard for 4 yards. He was smacked down hard on the play by Leroy Selmon, but that big 'ol tough Cornhusker farmboy just bounced right back up and trotted back to the huddle. They really grow 'em tough out there in the cornfields of Nebraska, don't they?" Every play was a war and every kid was a farm-raised corn-fed tough guy. I guess you just had to be there...
