K/P Ben Buchanan (official thread)

Beechcroft scrimmaged Westerville Central last night. Although the varsity live action (3 quarters) came to a tie, it almost ended in a 3-0 Westerville win.

Facing 4th and 30 at their own 40 yard line, Westerville sent in Ben to try a 57 yard field goal (Yes 57 yards). He had it by at least 5-10 yards, but it missed just to the right by a yard or two.

He also tried a 49 yarder against a strong wind that again had the distance, but missed wide right.

His punting game was on also. Pinning us inside our 15 every time he punted. Although none of the kicks/punts were "live" last night. There was no pressure put on the kickers/punters and all punts were dead where the PR touched it.

My school (Dublin Jerome) hosts Central in week 1, so I am pumped to see him play. Of course, I won't be cheering for him until next season, though. Gotta stay loyal to my HS while I'm still in it :wink2:

Hopefully Jerome's defense will be strong enough to hold Central to only a few long field goal attempts, and nothing else.

Buchanan scored Central's only points tonight with a 47-yard FG in a loss to Dublin Jerome.
That shot would have been good from 57, if not further.

He also was 2/2 on touchbacks, and had two big punts -- one inside the 5, another in the back of his endzone -- that landed right around the 50 yard line (one was returned for a decent gain, which will hurt his net average).

I believe he also had another punt that exceeded 50 yards, but could be mistaken.

i graduated from Central last year and i had class with him. i also was in the marching band all 4 yrs so i had the privelage to see him progress first hand. this kid is an amazing kicker and it was always exciting to watch him. he also is very intelligent and his studies seemed to come first. hes a very down to earth nice kid who everyone seemed to get along with. hes gonna do great next year at ohio state. oh and i heard the other day that he hit a 60 yarder in practice.

Ben hit 3 FG's of 31 yds, 42 yds, and 47 yds and went 3/3 on extra point attempts in a 51-30 loss to Westerville South.

When you're in high school and field goals in the 30's are chip shots, you know you're pretty good.
