I believe it is the highest draft position ever for a kicker in the modern draft era. Congrats Nuge- Go Bucks!
No the Raiders selected Sebastian Janokowski in the first round several years ago.

My apologies to the board.....didn't read the remaining posts in the thread before I posted.

I was actually thinking Jets in the 2nd last year when Brien-stone Cowboy missed all those kicks. They're a good team looking for specific pieces, and Nuge fits the bill. He's going to be a Jan Stenerud-like NFL kicker.

You never know how great you had it...

...until you don't have it anymore. :(

When I saw #85 run out on the field today, I did a double take... it was like a dream come true. But nope... it was Pretorius. Trying to channel a little "nuuuge" I think :) Jeez.

I was really expecting him to go to Tampa Bay or the Vikings. Pretty floored that the Jets took him. BUT, I'm absolutely giddy that he went so high. But those Jets fans had better appreciate him. What a steal.

I'm so proud of him.... :sob: Missed him so much today in the Spring game, it was painful.

Well, I always said that I'd start following an NFL team once I learned where Nuge went. Looks like I'll be doing some checking-up on the Jets this coming season.

ETA: I just watched the video of his selection (I taped it while I was watching video of the Spring Game) and I was appalled. Half the fans were like "Okay...Sure! We can live with that." And the other half were actually BOOOING! Oh, I was steamed.

As long as he gets his second-round payday, I'll be happy.

Wasn't Jaworski great when he was very adamantly supporting Nuge's selection... I loved his slam to Hodge... "you get all excited about somebody that gains 3 yards... I want somebody who's going to give me points" ... "you don't just snap your fingers and find a kicker like this"

Hodge has had 4386 concussions...at this point he thinks that 3 yards IS points.

The bottom line is that the team was basically a kicker away from challanging for the Super Bowl, and NO FRIGGING WAY does Nuge miss those FGs. There's the Jets' missing piece.

Fantastic...Great for him...Couldn't happen to a better person.....Needless to say we are really going to miss him especially if the spring game is any indication of what's ahead (i.e. short kickoffs, missed extra points, and wobbly looking field goals, etc.)

Nugent was the 47th pick (out of curiosity) does anyone how how much $$$$$ last years 47th pick (Terry Johnson, DT, Washington to the Bears) received?
He probably will do as good or better than hitting the lottery.

I really hope he has a long and productive NFL career.

Tank Johnson's contract apparently isn't available, but he signed a five-year deal with escalating incentives and a 1.725 Million signing bonus, which was reported as standard for a pick in his position.

Nuge should take home 2 Mil before ever setting foot on a NFL field.
