Just say "NO!" to ESPN

Vlmarti

Newbie
Just one man's opinion, but I can think of no reason why OSU should allow the ESPN Game Day puppet show from visiting the back parking lot of St. John's Arena.

I am contemplating the creation of an open letter to our new AD, signed by as many Bucks as possible, to 1) educate him on the last three years of ESPN's conduct and 2) to request that he refuse to let the wimp, the dinosaur and the ex-pat from darkening our door stop.

Let them cover Boise State vs UNLV, for all that I care. OSU existed long before Game Day, and I am guessing, that it will survive long after ESPN is merged into the Home Shopping Network.

GO BUCKS!

I agree with your stance......and I will also add that I truly fear for what the actions of Buckeye fans may be if gameday is allowed.....

Seems that gameday, tosu, texas and a night game are "the perfect storm."

I think it is best on multiple levels that espn stays away for a long time.

As an almunus I am happy to sign that. I could care less about the actions of the Gameday crew, who I think has been fine during this whole escapade, but ESPN as a whole needs to know all is still not right between them and the Buckeye nation.

The only way I would welcome them on campus is after admitting they were wrong (assuming the NCAA finds nothing), which will never happen, or that all OSU fans stay completely away from their set. I would hope the Texas fans would support our desires as they have at least as much football tradition as the Buckeye state. Then ESPN can have a live shot of an empty parking lot. That or my original comment months ago of having all Buckeye fans stand there staring in silence.

I agree w/ both alan and vlmarti. The probability of some drunken idiot throwing something at the set or other such nonsense is pretty good, and would simply give ESPN more ammo. Also, it could get personal w/ Herbstreit, but that's what happens when you don't stick up for your homies.....

I agree with VLMarti. There is no way that tOSU fans will not pull some sort of stunt, if only being really unruly and crass, when the Gameday crew arrives. If we trash Columbus when we are happy about winning a NC, what the heck do we think will happen when the beacon of ESPiN comes to town? I would argue that many of us hate them far more than scUM at the moment, and we would never allow a Michigan gameday crew to set up on our lawn if only due to the horrible potential for violence.

VLMarti, you would get at least 100 BP signatures on that petition. Especially if it was uploaded here later in the summer, when BP is hopping again, you could probably get 3-6 times that many. It would go a long way if Gene Smith ushered in his new career with a bold and admirable move like that.

Did I miss someting somewhere? Are people just pissed with Herbie because he works for the Pin or what. He has seemed pretty supportive of tOSU on his radio show in 1460 The Fan, and stated many times that they are told what they can and cannot talk about on the air during ShameDay. I think he was just doing his job. He is still one of the biggest Buckeye fans in the world of broadcasters, but he has to try hard to not play favorites.

Some just expect Herbie to call out ESPiN and risk losing probably the greatest job in sports (show up, have the whole campus cheer behind you, and then watch games for free). We had a discussion on Herbie a while back, and for the most part I think the discussion proved that he had been very supportive (especially on his radio braodcasts where he has the freedom to speak his mind) and has his hands tied.

Some few have a hard-on about Herbie not being pro-tOSU 100%, 110% of the time.

I feel most spewing venom (in the past) at Herbie were venting understandable frustration over the entire year of EPSiN muck-raking and innuendo (culminating in the Alamo Bowl "coverage").

Most Buckeye fans are simply disgusted with that same organization, period. Hence we have no wish to see their kin on campus.

I love the Perfect Storm analogy! I would love to see a complete boycott. Texas fans would obviously be there, but the lack of Buckeye fans would be a serious slap in the face. The reality of the situation is we won't be able to stay away. There will end up being tons of Buckeye fans there, and they'll be angry. I just hope no one gets hurt, or nothing stupid happens that gives ESPN more ammo.

By the way, I'd hate to see the Gameday crew take the force of the attack, especially Herbie. I really don't think they deserve any abuse, but they're the fodder that ESPN will send to the Horseshoe. Wouldn't it be great to have Mark May and Trev Alberts host at the shoe just that once!?!?!
