Joshua Shaw (official thread)

This is the big thing that tells me he should be on defense. He's already excellent at keying the run and acting as the force player. His physicality is clearly there and he's had great coaching, judging by his form tackling.

Exactly, I'm stoked he is already as good of a tackler as he is, in addition to being an aggressive force. Shaw is the ideal corner here and it's good to hear he is impressed with OSU. This would be a HUGE get.

Do you think we have a good shot at pulling him away from SC?

LordJeffBuck;1509142; said:
A "good" shot? No. But the Buckeyes' do have a reasonable shot at this stage, which is all that you can ask. Shaw is scheduled to make an official visit to Ohio State on September 12th for the game against Southern Cal. We should know more - probably a lot more - after that visit.

By Bill Kurelic...Ohio State is his leader. Ranked this visit at the top (has also visited UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon). Wants to enroll early.

Well we are the leader after the visit and he had some GLOWING remarks. Gotta keep the momentum. Hope he has as much fun USC week....

Rivals $ - From the road

Farrell has nothing but glowing remarks for Shaw and compares him to Justin Turner (save the academics jokes for another thread), meaning he could be a special talent at the next level at either corner or safety.

Scout$--Shaw Reflects On OSU Trip, Names Leader

More of the same...loved everything about the trip and was impressed with Nate Oliver and Coach Johnson.
Looks like we've officially entered the "good shot" territory....

But there's still a way to go.

Joshua Shaw - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

....

"I already had a strong interest in Ohio State," Shaw said. "I'm glad my parents got to go out there. I can (now) feel comfortable saying they are my leader. As far as the visits I've been on, Ohio State was ten times better than the other ones. Ohio State is my leader. Everyone else is even."

"I was most impressed with how important football is there," continued Shaw. "I saw how much more important it is out there than it is on the West Coast. People knew who I was when I was walking around."

Shaw is still considering Ohio State, USC, UCLA, Washington, Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan and Penn State (haven't offered yet). He has visited USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, and now Ohio State.

Question his interest somewhat before but the fact that he took his parents with him on an Unofficial Visit can only be described as legit interest. Between that and him coming for the USC game we are in great shape.

Hey it's not all their fault...just a lot more to do.

I loved that quote and I'm glad he realized that. Seems like we are in great shape here. I didn't realize this until now but Shaw is the #45 player nationally, the #3 CB in the country, and #6 in California according to Rivals. I think that ranking is pretty accurate, his film is really impressive and he has impressed at camps and combines.

Wow. Didn't know all of that. I was also impressed and wanted him, but now I'm just plain giddy:biggrin2:

Yeah, he'd be a really good get. I also like that he seems to really fit the mold that OSU wants in CBs with his size and longer arms. Plus, in his interviews he seems like a smart, well grounded kid from a good family who would likely come in and work really hard.

I think he is similar to Corey Brown, only more physically developed. He plays both WR and CB similar imo. He would also make the perfect tandem with Joyner...you have Joyner at 5'9 but a freakish athlete, with Shaw being the 6'1 rangy guy. Obviously that is a dream class at CB but it is feasible.

I gotta give Nate Oliver a lot of credit-he isn't really in line for big PT this year-his 3rd in the program, yet he is upbeat and positive enough to make a great impression on kid who could steal more PT from him-but he is all about the program.
As long as the game against USc isn't a horse abortion like last year, I feel real good about our chances w/ Mr. Shaw.
