Joshua Shaw (official thread)

Scout $: Shaw makes trip to Gainesville

Talks about his developing relationship with Urban Meyer as well as the impressive environment and facilities at Florida (biggest weight room he's seen). Florida has made up ground and his mother told Meyer that she'd be comfortable sending her son to Florida. There's no specific reference to who's leading but (IMO) it sounds like it's still Ohio State.

Yeah, I still feel confident. Sounds like he had a great time, as all recruits do on official visits, but he makes no reference to any leader. Leads me to believe that we still do.

Not to mention he's talking to a writer from a Florida site. Of course he'll have nothing but good things to say about the Gators. Of course the author will write the most positive portrayal of Shaws comments possible. But compare this piece to those after his Ohio State visits. Not to mention the fact that he's declared them his leader multiple times ever since his first visit. Maybe I'm just a homer, but I think the Bucks still hold a substantial lead for Shaw.

Agreed. This is the exact kind of update I was hoping for after his Florida visit. I was nervous that the atmosphere there would rival ours against USC because of the buildup for the first Kiffin/Meyer match-up and everything that went on this summer. I have been there a few times, and that place can get loud, but I think the mood there was a fairly calm.

Shaw Planning Trip to Norman

Recruiting coverage at Sooners Illustrated continues as we look to bring fans the latest in Oklahoma recruiting news. Here is an update on one of California?s top defensive backs Joshua Shaw.

Again, no talk of a leader. He's excited for his trip to Norman to see the Sooners play Texas A&M. He's a little frustrated because no one is throwing at him this season. He's playing QB, CB, Punter, as well as returning both punts and kickoffs.

Shaw impressed with Meyer and the Gators

A few weeks ago, Ohio State looked to be in the lead for Under Armour All-American defensive back Joshua Shaw (Palmdale, Calif./Palmdale). After the cornerback visited Florida this past weekend, the gap has been narrowed dramatically.

The Buckeyes have been doing very well with Shaw for some time, but the Gators gave the athlete a lot to think about this past weekend.

"I loved it there and really love the coaches," Shaw said. "I feel so wanted by the staff and especially by coach [Urban] Meyer. Out of all the schools recruiting me, coach Meyer is the only head coach that is personally recruiting me and that is huge to me.

"There's always a ton of talent and speed in Florida, so for coach Meyer to take the time to personally recruit me shows how bad they want me. Coach Meyer told me they like my size and feel I could be like Janoris Jenkins and Joe Haden who both started as true freshman. The talk is Joe will come out early for the draft this year so there will be a starting spot open and I could come in and compete for it."

Shaw compared the overall atmosphere at Florida and Ohio State.

"Both places are loud, but Ohio State was louder and more crazy," Shaw said. "Football is just different in Ohio, it's a religion there. The cities are a lot different as well. Gainesville is more of a college town and Columbus is a big city, more like Los Angeles in how big and spread out.

"I spent more time at Ohio State since it was a night game and got to bond with the players more there. Plus I've been there twice. At Florida, I didn't get to spend as much time with the players so I'm thinking about heading back there for an unofficial visit so I can do that.

"Right now, it's very close at the top and I'm going to hold off naming a leader until I take all five of my visits. I'm going to visit Notre Dame, Michigan and Oklahoma. I crossed LSU off my list and I'll take an unofficial visit to USC as well."

I know a former OSU player who has been to The Swamp and he has said The Swamp was louder. For Shaw to feel The Shoe was louder and crazier than The Swamp is great, along with his "getting it" as far as how football is embraced in Ohio.

I've been to quite a few great college venues (ND, scUM, Pasadena, UF, UGA, Happey Valley to name a few), You will be hard pressed to find a better "Big Game" atmosphere than a night game @ the shoe. "Big Game" being the key words. I've also been in that place when you can hear a pin drop.

This has been my biggest complaint w/ Buckeye fans for the 20 years I've been a serious OSU fan. They bring it for the big games but we've gotten so spoiled w/ 10-11 win seasons that we don't respect the lesser opponent. And don't make noise to support our team unless we feel threatened by the team that comes in here.

Take the Navy game this year for example. I know some think crowd noise and home field advantage is overblown in terms of wins and losses but IMO that Navy game would have been a 30 point game by the end of the 3rd quarter if the crowd was into it. The players feed off the energy and it took a deep ball, a late INT by TP, them scoring to make it a 2 point game late in the 4th just to get the fans off their a**es.

I know some will argue that it's like that every where you go and fans just naturally get up for big games, but it really isn't. You look @ the student sections @ UF, PSU, Oregon just as examples. They are crazy whether they are playing USC or North Dakota St. Even the atmosphere @ The Big House looks to be restored (maybe it's b/c they have already matched their win total of last year, LOL) and that stadium has a reputation for being a morgue. The atmosphere is great @ these stadiums every week of the season and recruits feel that energy on visits.

Sorry off topic a little bit, but if the fans could bring half the intensity that they did for the USC game every weekend, there is no doubt in my mind the Buckeyes get even more of the top OOS talent to come to OSU like Shaw. Not all the recruits can be there for the USC-type games so it would be nice to show that type of support every fall saturday afternoon/evening @ the shoe regardless of who they play.

That being said, I think Shaw felt the love and the "Big Game" atmosphere 2 weeks ago. IMO, he still ends up in scarlet and grey.

Go Bucks!!!!!

Yeah, not sure how that article can be spun as anything but a positive for tOSU.

How about the fact that he said he was now going to hold off naming a leader, where up until this point OSU was the clear leader. It doesn't get any more direct than that.

I would still bet on OSU at this point but after that article I would move the odds quite a bit. Something like 95% before hand and 70% now, IMO. That is not a "positive" for OSU.
