Johnny Manziel (unemployed)

Browns tell Manziel he's backup

Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam says the Browns have told Johnny Manziel to start acting "like a backup quarterback.''

How about, "Stop acting like an asshole."

"Sir, the streets need repaving, the water main is about to blow, the retirement fund needs a large injection of cash and we don't have any funding for parks."

"I've got it. We'll build a zeppelin hanger outside Terminal Tower."

I love CFB and use the NFL to help me with my Sunday afternoon nap that I need after binging on CFB on Saturday. I treat the NFL for what it is: entertainment wrapped in the context of a sport.

The Browns have been terrible at playing football, and more importantly, they have been boring. Johnny Cleveland may be a bust or hall of famer, but one thing he will not be is boring. As opposed to Weeden being sacked for a 7 yard loss, Johnny will will run sideline to sideline and be sacked for a 27 yard loss or throw a pick or maybe throw a TD - but it will be entertaining. I might actually stay awake during a Browns game when he is playing.

I got into a huge debate the night of the draft with my Pastor. He bet me a Subway sandwich that MB would go to the Cowboys. Here's some context of that convo:

"Pastor, why do you think he'd go to the Cowgirls? They got Romo. Why would they draft an un proven, gunslinging QB to replace another choking gunslinging QB?"
"Because of the money, man!"
"Um....betcha he won't even go in the first round."
"You're on."

When JJ and the 'Girls passed on him, I was putting in my order. Then Haslem screws the pooch for me.

Damn you, Jimmy.

Have to feel a little bad for Hoyer though. I am ecstatic we got JF don't get me wrong, but Hoyer basically will have the shortest leash ever. I wish that we would give Hoyer and long serious shot and let JF sit back and learn the system, learn the NFL style better etc, but we all know with the pressure now that will be put on the team to play him, JF will be starting by week 6 at the latest.

I hope I am wrong and I hope that we can let JF sit back for a year and learn.

Not going to matter anyway. They could have traded up for Watkins and this Gordon issue wouldn't be as much of an issue. But, noooooooooo....the Money Badger had to get into the game, LOL

Interesting article..

Dowell Loggains

“We’re sitting there and they keep showing Johnny on TV and Johnny and I are texting and he shoots me a text and he says, ‘I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.’

“When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach [Mike Pettine]. I’m like ‘this guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.’ As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ‘pull the trigger. We’re trading up to go get this guy.”’

Browns need to get out in front of this story and clarify, because that story makes the organization look bad.
I think the opposite. That makes it look like he REALLY wanted to be a brown and now has a monstrous chip on his shoulder. One thing you have to say about the little dork...he's saying the right things as of now. That kind of stuff will get the fanbase even more behind him. Now, we'll see how his attitude responds once he's getting hammered by 245 lb linebackers and his shitty receivers are dropping his YOLO balls.

It's not about what he said its about what the QB coach said and it can be misconstrued that Haslam is the one that forced our football people to trade up to get him. And I do not think we want that perception out there whether true or not.

I think the QB coach did a piss poor job of explaining that Manziel wanted to be a Brown. The worst thing that could happen now is TMZ getting a hold of Manziel's text history and finding that he was sending the same shit to 10 other teams. If the rumors that Arizona was going to take Manziel at 23 are true or even that the Vikes were trying to work a deal for 22 nothing else really matters. Regardless if it was Farmer's decision to draft Manziel or Haslam's, it is on Farmer's head now. If Manziel is a Tebow, Weeden, Quinn type dud Farmer will be gone and will be starting from scratch again in a couple years. As much as I dislike the person that Manziel is I hope he is the football player that they think he is.

What Manziel said is equivalent to a hooker telling a John, "Oooh, you're my favorite lover!" Haslam & Co. fell for it. Yeah, it makes the organization look bad.
