No special access for 'Worldwide Wes' at NCAA tournament

A picture of William "Worldwide Wes" Wesley, one of the most powerful behind-the-scenes men in basketball, was distributed to security guards at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday at the Midwest Regional semifinal along with instructions to keep him out of credentialed areas.
.
.
.
Bill Potter, NCAA media coordinator for the site, said Wesley would be allowed in the building with a ticket but not into areas that require a credential, just like the general public. Wesley, however, isn't exactly the general public.

Once called the "most powerful man in sports" by GQ, Wesley has been a staple at big-time college basketball games and has close relationships with some of the most prominent players in the NBA. Wesley had no public tie-in to an agency until 2010 when he joined Creative Artists Agency as a consultant.

He is also known among the college basketball community for his association with Kentucky coach John Calipari. Wesley has been prominently associated with Calipari's teams both at Memphis and Kentucky.

H.S. stars envision fights next season at Kentucky

Coming off a disappointing 2012-13, John Calipari will no doubt be watching over a different environment in 2013-14. Based on what Calipari's six McDonald's All-Americans have been saying this week, the UK coach will have his hands full during next season's practices, which are already being billed as knock-down, drag-out auditions for playing time among a young bunch of highly motivated players with through-the-roof expectations. "With people that hate losing, there's bound to be fights," said forward Marcus Lee. "The big men and the guards -- we just go at it so hard. Especially during practice. I wouldn't doubt that there would be fights." Just to be clear: Lee is predicting actual, physical fights. And he's not alone.

The fact that UK is or could bring in nine recruits is one reason why I think the NCAA (or conferences) should cap basketball signees per year to maybe 5 (or so). Just to prevent people from switching out entire rosters.

But the NCAA has very little control over basketball (or anything else), so that's not going to happen.

How is his APR not complete garbage already? I thought tOSU was getting hit hard for all our guys that kept leaving early a few years back.

OSU APR already on the rocks due to guys transferring at inopportune times when the staff transition occurred to Matta. And IIRC, the APR wasn't great under the O'Brien years, maybe part of that was due to the newness of the APR and it not being a focus back in those days.

UK APR was stellar under Tubby and Gillispie, that was one thing they both got right. Gotta get those years in the rearview mirror before Cal's teams are the only ones that matter. They look at what, four or five classes that are four years removed from when they were supposed to graduate (if it took 4 years to graduate)? Probably will be like 2018 before Calipari's teams having a lot of poor students makes any difference.
