TRESSEL TALKS
Ohio State coach discusses Buckeyes and the national championship game
Sunday, January 21, 2007
Even in the worst of times, there is no such thing as a conversation with Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel in which someone gets thrown under the bus. So it was when he took time from recruiting to talk with The Dispatch?s Tim May about the 41-14 loss to Florida in the national championship game Jan. 8. Many players made mistakes that night, and the coaches? plan wasn?t so grand, in retrospect, but any blame was cast with a blanket. Here are some questions and answers that hit the still-hot topics:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Responding to the demands of local reporters and a handful of Buckeye fans, Coach Jim Tressel addressed the Ohio State football team’s 41-14 loss to Florida in a macabre press conference yesterday.

“But I’ve come to realize we have great fans and friends in the media who can’t move on—can’t do their jobs, can’t feed their pets, can’t love their children—until they’re assured, again, that our coaching staff doesn’t like getting beat by 27 points.”
Tressel then placed a small box on the table in front of him.
“I could sit here and talk to you all day about how much this loss hurts,” he said. “But instead, I thought I’d just show you.”
Tressel opened the box and tilted it toward the reporters, several of whom passed out at the sight of severed human body parts.
“In here is a finger from each of our assistant coaches,” he said, adding that while every coach had a finger cut off to atone for the upset loss, not everyone had to part with the same finger.

I can't move on until we win a football game. :(
WTH? Nah I was just goofing around while i was getting a beer open.tailgater_gal;725397; said:I undertand Best. There is something missing and you can't find it. It is lost and never will be found. It can only be dampered until the next win. Until then we live with the loss as best we can.. Which is what you do too, if I understand you correctly.
I want Tressel to explain global warming too. We've known about that a long time and I'd like to know what he is doing about it. I've also have gained about 3 kilograms that I'd like to get off and I want him to explain what he is doing to help.

TRESSEL ON SMITH, DUNGY
Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel doesn't pretend to know Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy like best friends. But the three are acquaintances. Smith and Dungy will be the first black head coaches in a Super Bowl.
"I admire them a lot," Tressel said. "I got an e-mail from a friend of mine who works for the Bears (likely running backs coach Tim Spencer), and I was congratulating him. His e-mail back was on target. He said, 'You know, the nice thing about this Super Bowl is it's a gentleman's Super Bowl. No matter what happens, a nice guy will finish first.
"I'm probably taken more by the fact that you've got two quality human beings in the Super Bowl than the fact they're African-Americans."
Smith is a former assistant at Ohio State, where he was former Bulldog Che Bryant's position coach.
