COMMENTARY
On the verge of being crowned a king, Tressel loses his Midas touch

GLENDALE, Ariz. ? Jim Tressel doesn?t look and sound any different.
Same sweater vest. Same rimless glasses. Same measured manner. Same verbiage in his games of interview pong with the news media. But late in the first half of the national championship game against Florida, the Ohio State coach turned into the reincarnation of Yortuk Festruna, one of Saturday Night Live?s wild and crazy guys.

Legend of Tressel unclear after loss

By Sheldon Ocker

GLENDALE, ARIZ. - During a stoppage of play with 6:18 left in the third quarter, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel walked onto the field to speak to quarterback Troy Smith and defensive lineman Vernon Gholston.
Tressel's arms were folded over his signature red sweater vest, and he showed no emotion or animation. For all anyone knew, he was asking Smith and Gholston whether they preferred chocolate or strawberry milkshakes after the game.

Everyone just wait, because next year is going to be one hell of a ride. You think the players will be motivated? Just watch Tressel. He's going to learn from this and I think will do his best coaching job yet.

I agree. This is not a lazy guy that's just going to let this loss get the best of him. He's always motivated, he's always up for a challenge and I guarantee you he learned a lot more from this loss than any win in his career.

Noone will take this loss harder than Tress. I liken this to the whoppin' Florida St. put on us when Cooper was around. The one thing that did was educate and motivate Coop to tweak his philosophy on recruiting speed lineman in large numbers, and rotating them.

Tress will look at Urban Meyer's offense and gain some perspective on how to attack a defense. He may also change his tune on recruiting to start putting more emphasis on states like Texas and Florida.

Seems to me Jim is doing what he can to pull talent from those states. If you read through the recruiting threads you'll see many high schoolers are impressed that JT has shown up at their games in Florida, Texas, etc. It's hard to pull those kids away from the south since there are so many good football schools down there. IMO if we get 2-4 a year it is a good year. (any of the recruiting guru's can correct me if I'm wrong).

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
OSU wasn?t prepared mentally, Tressel says
Thursday, January 18, 2007
Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel, having had a week and a half to deal with the heartburn of a 41-14 loss in the national championship game, wasn?t about to lay it off on the theory of Southeastern Conference superiority over the Big Ten. He spoke to WBNS-AM (1460) yesterday in his first public comments since the debacle on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz. He told hosts Kirk Herbstreit and Bruce Hooley that as he evaluated the game, mental preparation had more to do with it than Florida?s supposed speed advantage.

I'm not so sure — and again, that's why you start with yourself — if we had our team as mentally prepared as we could have had it.

Correctly, Tressel includes the coaching staff and (implicitly) both their efforts at preparation and execution in the equation.

He said what happened in 2006, both the 12-0 run and the lopsided loss to Florida, likely won't leave his mind "for a long, long time."

The learning process is underway.

Tressel still a winner despite loss

By Terry Pluto

Maybe I'm forgetting something, or maybe I've got it wrong.
Maybe Jim Tressel is really 1-5 against Michigan, not 5-1.
Maybe losing in the championship game to Florida wipes away what the Ohio State coach has done to rally the entire state behind the Buckeyes' football team.

Plain talk from Tressel might help OSU fans heal

ROB OLLER

All Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel needs to get himself off the hook is a winning halftime adjustment ? something he didn?t have 11 days ago. I have just the thing.

Rob Oller must be board!
Tressel just doesn't have the time right now.
But, we know he will address it in his own way at the appropriate time.
Or not!

But, we hope to see a faster "product" on the field in the future!
