I have no problem honoring the guy for his success on the field at some point down the road. To march him out to mid-field and do so while we're still under the sanctions he caused is ridiculous.

I agree to an extent. But we are living in an ADHD world nowadays. So 5 years almost 30 years ago equals 15 months for people today. I'd hate to see how BB73 would respond to this dilemma.

I think to honor him now would lend an air of acceptance to his behavior and that is wrong. Personally I don't care if he ever gets honored. I think that if you add his record and subtract the hurt he put on tOSU he's in the minus.

JT resigned because he was told that he would be fired that very day if he didn't. Let's not sugar coat things.

Yes, it was non-criminal. It was also a case of lying to his superiors at the university, lying to the ncaa and breaking ncaa rules he was duty bound to uphold in order to keep his star players eligible for a national championship run. His actions put the school on probation and gave it a far blacker eye (as in bringing into question the integrity of the athletic department and the priorities of the university as a whole) than did Woody's loss of temper at the Gator Bowl. Ohio State never received a major ncaa violation, vacated wins nor suffered a bowl ban because of that swing.

I have no problem honoring the guy for his success on the field at some point down the road. To march him out to mid-field and do so while we're still under the sanctions he caused is ridiculous.

BTW, if JT hadn't been fired/forced to resign/shown the door, my friends in Bricker Hall are absolutely certain that we would have had LOIC handed down instead of FTM.

BTW2, Woody didn't dot the eye until five years after he was fired. There needs to be a reasonable window of time before it can even be considered.

You simply cannot honor the 2002 team honoring him, plain and fucking simple. If they have no intention of inviting Tressel, then they should not be honoring the team.

By the way, although what Tressel did was wrong, it's well known that the sanction would've been far lighter had Herron and Posey not turned around and got suspended again after the shit started. In fact, Tressel would most likely still be our coach.

Former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel might appear with 2002 team at Michigan game

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel might have a chance to relive some fond moments during the Michigan game in November.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Two Ohio State football teams will take the field against Michigan on Nov. 24 -- Urban Meyer's Buckeyes in their last game of the 2012 season and, for a brief moment, the 2002 Buckeyes celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their national championship.

That title team might have its coach along, too.

The reunion planned for that weekend has been spearheaded by players from the '02 team, including Mike Doss and Craig Krenzel. Ohio State hasn't played a major role in organizing it, but Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith confirmed to The Plain Dealer on Thursday that the school will allow anyone associated with the team to be honored at Ohio Stadium. That includes former coach Jim Tressel, who was forced to resign by Ohio State in the wake of NCAA violations 16 months ago.

"Obviously, the big question everyone has is will Tress be involved?" said 2002 team member Dustin Fox. "I don't know. I would like to think so. It wouldn't feel the same without him."

In a phone interview Thursday, Doss said he's not sure what Tressel's plans are, but his primary goal is to get Tressel to the private team dinner planned for the Friday night before the game. Anything public that Saturday would be a bonus.

"We would love to see Tress there," Doss said. "But the university has stepped up and said we want to recognize that team, and if one person walks out on the field, we'll still be recognized, and if 100 guys are there, we'll get recognized. We know what we did as a team and a family unit."

Sure, it's been ten years and all since the NC, but I think it's poor planning to try and do this now considering our current sanctions.

Another misstep by Gene Smith imo.

This wasn't Gene's idea. Sounds like Doss and Krenzel are spearheading this and approached the university about it. Now, don't get me wrong I am sure Gene could have said no...

Not about the invite, but hearing JT admit to being "scared" in the first minute of this video makes me feel terrible for the guy.

If he doesn't get an invite to the ceremony however, that would be ridiculous to say the least considering he was the nucleus of getting that NC.

Woody was fired because he clocked an opposing player during a bowl game, and he has his name permanently up in The Shoe.

They didn't do it the year after he was let go.

Ohio State will more than pay for Tressel's transgression. On the balance, he broke no laws and he did a lot of good. I remain disappointed in the final stage of his career, but he brought the Buckeyes back home from the wilderness. I say let him come.

If he's just one part of a larger recognition of the team, I really don't have a problem with him being on the field. And I don't have a problem with him being honored individually in some form down the road. It's the same way that I don't have a problem honoring Cris Carter now despite his colossal [censored] up when he was on the team.

I do, however, think that his transgressions were serious enough and the damage he caused to Ohio State serious enough that he's forfeited his right to dot the I or have his name next to Paul Brown and Woody.
