Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

Carroll is gone. Meyer is gone. Tressel and Saban need to match up now. But based on longevity and accomplishment in that manner, Tressel is the #1 coach in the NCAA in my book. National Title. Fiesta Bowl champ, Rose Bowl champ, Sugar Bowl champ.

Coach Tress trumps all these guys in my book. I'm sure others would point out his record against Carrol and Meyer (OK I will 0-3) or his 1-2 BCSNCG record and just say scoreboard. Those records have been duly noted (ad naseum on EsecPN) but he still wins 80+% of his games and his 1-0 Alamo Bowl, 1-0 Rose Bowl, 1-0 Sugar Bowl and 2-1 Fiesta Bowl record NEVER get mentioned on EsecPN or really any media outlet outside of Columbus Ohio.

We are arguably witnessing the greatest era in Buckeye Football History and it has a tremendous amount to do with Jim Tressel. I really don't think "in the now" he's as appreciated as he probably should be.

I'm currently reading the winners manual (just started it actually) and the beginning he mentions that maybe he has too many quotes. Long story short... I have this hanging in my home and office and immediately thought of coach Tress.

THE TIME IS NOW

If you are ever going to love me,
Love me now,
while I can know the sweet and tender feelings
which from true affection flow.
Love me now,
While I am living.
Do not wait until I'm gone
and then have it chiseled in marble,
sweet words on ice-cold stone.
If you have tender thoughts of me,
Please tell me now.
If you wait until
I am sleeping,
never to awaken,
there will be death between us
and I won't hear you then.
So, if you love me,
even a little bit,
let me know it while
I am living
so I can treasure it.

Maybe it's a little corny to say about a College Football Head Coach but being born and raised in northeast Ohio and attending Youngstown State from 93-96 I've always loved coach Tress.

Eh, some kind of retraction - and an unapologetic one to boot.

My report, however, was met with a wide range of reaction. Some individuals were skeptical, some media members in Ohio were unprofessional, and most citizens of the state of Ohio were immature with their personal attacks and threats through Twitter, Facebook and the comments section on that story (which had to be shut off because of the level to which individuals were abusing the ability to comment).

Are you kidding me? What a POS. What the hell did he expect the reaction amongst Ohio Media/Fans was going to be when he put out a false, totally inaccurate report claiming it to be the word of god when it had ABSOLUTELY NO LEGS to it? He's lucky most of us did not visit his stupid fucking blog to post a comment telling him what we thought. Funny how he calls Ohio Media members unprofessional when a professional would NOT have published that story in the first place.

There's a coaching position open at Michigan I hear...

Surprised this hasn't already been posted (NSFW language, although you can barely hear it): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRZ8bhcCGfA"]YouTube - Jim Tressel and Ohio State 2011 Sugar Bowl Halftime Speech[/ame]

A rare glimpse of this side of Tressel, and it is pretty awesome. (I don't know of any board policy this video might violate since it was taken without the team's/Tressel's permission, so my apologies if it needs to be taken down.)

All coach has left..... An Orange Bowl win... would be the only coach with a win in all 4 BCS games... why don't we hold that one until 2012-13 season (NCG).

JoePa has wins in the Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, and Cotton.

Although his only win among those since the BCS was formed is an Orange Bowl, he won NC games in the Sugar and Fiesta in the 80s, and has won the Rose and Orange since Penn State joined the Big Ten.

I thought I'd post that before BN27 jumped in to defend his record at Penn St.

Also, Bobby Bowden once won the Fiesta, Sugar, Cotton, and Orange within a 5-season interval. He never was able to take his team to a Rose Bowl.

Maybe its a crappy technicality (it's a matter of opinion, I suppose) but a national championship win that is at the same site as the Orange Bowl is not the same as an Orange Bowl win.

I'm guessing he won the Orange bowl in that span, and not the Rose Bowl. Otherwise, the next sentence doesn't make sense.

Amidst all of this Hokey business, various writers / posters continue to refer to Jim Tressel being a "down the ladder" choice for Ohio State when we were going through our last hiring process. I haven't read any names, though. My memory isn't the best. Can someone take me down memory lane? Who did tOSU interview/offer/consider before Tressel was hired?

Walt Harris and Mike Belotti come to mind. Many may not remember, but Glen Mason was also in the mix.
