Former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, now a college football analyst for ESPN, has said Tressel needs to hire an offensive coordinator and step back from the play-calling. It is Tressel who calls all of Ohio State's plays, even though Jim Bollman carries the title of offensive coordinator.
Tressel said he would evaluate that at the end of the season.

Name me one offenseive player who has consistently played great this year..the OL is inconsistent..the rec. the QB, the RB's..when JT couldn't name a captain from the O I was concerned(no leadership). Its been all on the coaches and they can't find any thing that consistently works. My two cents would be to simplfy everthing the routes reads blocking assignments and see if someone can make a play. The football IQ of this Off can be questioned. The wagons are circled now because of the assault from even staunch Buckeye supporters..hopefully the will rally together or it may look like Custer's last stand.

The WRs have played well.

If you are making a reference to Tressel being gone with "Custer's Last Stand" there's something wrong and even thinking about Tressel being gone is ludicrous. We've got one of the best teams in the nation the last 8 or so years (record wise, and I dont feel like looking up the stats) and people calling for Tressel's head is mind boggling. Sure we need to work stuff out on Offense, but it could be worse, and we have a very YOUNG team. This year I knew was going to be tough because of that. But if what you're saying above was not what I thought you mean then this is a moot point.

Hope this hasn't already been posted. I checked but didn't see it anywhere. Great article that may just sum it up.

Pryor, Purdue Expose Tressel's Inadequacy | Bleacher Report

Jim Tressel has consistently placed The Ohio State University in the top ten, defeated that team up north, and brought top notch talent to the flag ship of Ohio. Several years ago these accomplishments had given the ?good guy? of Buckeye football a nearly unassailable place at the helm of the scarlet and gray, but after a few nationally televised losses?and now one shocking upset?that position is under fire.
There clearly is a problem, and it is not with his conservative play calling. The problem is much deeper. He may be heralded as the good guy of college football, but this problem begins with Jim Tressel?s character.
I committed a cardinal sin. Instead of thinking for myself I went along with what everyone said. Tressel is a big character guy. When athletes come to Ohio State they learn how to play football, and how to be a man.

Let's just say that 6-1 against the skunkbears, a national title, 5 Big Ten titles and a winning percentage above the .800 mark is an inadequacy I can live with....

Skunkbears are crap, national title was 7 years ago, Big Ten is arguably the worst major BCS conference and his winning percentage against top 20 teams isn't even half of that... Just saying

I think that article is horseshit and the writer is trying to rationalize talking shit about JT.

I honestly don't know what to think anymore. The offense is a consistent problem and it doesn't appear to be headed in the right direction. The author might be reaching with the "control freak" psychoanalysis, but something has to give at some point. There is no reason that Ohio State shouldn't be able to field a competent offense. 91st in the fucking country playing in the Big 10? 101st in passing???? You have to be fucking kidding me.

Seeing as how this is our first loss to a non BCS Bowl game team in 5 years, I'm willing to give Tressel a pass. Meyer and Carrol and even the almighty Hayes had these sorts of missteps every now and then. Add in his proficiency against TSUN and his knack for repetitive Big Ten titles and I've fallen back in love. A national championship as well and I might need a ciggarette.

However what I am not in love with is a seeming acceptance of the status quo. Tressel understands that the offensive performance is inadequate, that the playcalling and execuation was inadequate, etc etc. However it seems as though we've been this way before. Tressel is not a big fan of in season adjustments offensively. I don't mean with personnel, he's done that with plenty of room to spare. I mean with philosophy and adjustments in plays called. It seems to me (an untrained eye) that Tressel does his adjustments in the offseason, comes up with an arching gameplan of what he would like to introduce from week to week, with it culminating in a masterful gameplan Michigan weekend. Well, the question that I ask now is, where does it go from here. The incremental additions to the offense can't be practiced out in losing situations.

In years past, when things were going bad we started practicing the "button-up." The offense was condensed and made easy to understand, with emphasis placed on executing the simpler plays. In other words getting back to basics. This would be done until the offense got back on track, from which the building process would start all over.

It will be interesting to see how Tressel responds from here on. I have hope that he will make the right choice (whatever that may be) and we will see marked improvement before the end of the year. But this is a very daunting situation because regardless of how the offense performs from here on out JT knows he is going to hear it in the off season.

So the premise seems to be that Tressel lacks a commitment to success.

That is so counter-intuitive, and so at odds with Coach Tressel's accomplishments, that I just don't think it is accurate.

I'm in disgust that some of you guys are complaining about Tressel. If you aren't happy with the good thing we have go cheer on a different team. This is ridiculous. Yes we have problems with the Offense. Yes we've lost some big games as of late. But dammit 4 losses in the Big 10 to date (since 2005) and some of you faithfuls "Don't know what to think anymore" is bullshit. With a winning percentage of .807 since coming to Ohio State, that roughly a record of 11-2 record every year. Seriously people, come on. This year wasn't even supposed to be our year. If you honestly thought we would go 13-0 this year, you're out of your mind. Most thought 2/3 losses this year. Okay we're at 2 already thats great. We still have half a football season to play. Just relax, let these YOUNG guys develop and ENJOY the run next year.

Edit: And I'm not saying I'm okay with losing. I am competitive in everything I do, and I absolutely hate losing. Losing is part of competition, it happens and people need humbling, which is apparent.

Where do we go from here?? We go out and get back on track for the rest of the year. We take it one week at a time starting with Minny and go from there. It's time to see who wants to play, and who wants to do something great.
