Jim Bollman (Stay calm and run Dave)

The offense didn't give up two quick touchdowns in the 4th quarter. It isn't like playcalling put us behind.

What happened between those two late TDs? Oh, right--a three and out due to unimaginative play calling when one first down would have iced the game. Thanks for making my point for me.

If only Jim Bollman had your imagination - the kind that lets you imagine that blown lead had anything to do with the offense and nothing to do with the defense.

Can't find the rest, but 02 was obviously very good and I would be shocked if 00 or 01 dropped bellow the 50's.

We don't need a top ranked offense to continue being successful, but average would make us unstoppable, and we rarely got that unless we had superstars at a couple of positions.

Bolls has never been the most innovative guy, but people crushing this guy right now need to chill. His freshmen QB steps into sacks, and struggles with blitzes. Typical of a freshmen. Braxton is gonna be a mega star, but it takes time.

Agreed on Braxton.

But the fact remains that the two things that Bollman is responsible for, the O line and the offensive play calling, are the consistent weak links over the Jim Bollman era. Indiana should have never been in this game. Yes they have a funky offense, but an Ohio State football team should be able to drum up some plays to score some points on a pathetic Indiana defense.

They rolled on two possessions because Indiana was gassed because they have no depth. Another game that should have been a tune up, a chance to get the 2s in and get some game experience and they couldn't. They couldn't because the offense was stinking up the joint and allowing Indiana to stay in the ball game.

EDIT Please don't get me wrong. A W is a W, especially this season. But a team as inferior as Indiana should have been put away by half time with the 2s being able to get some shots at playing. I just don't think that this offensive staff even considers that. They never change anything or try to adjust anything. Run, run pass. Run run pass. Punt sometimes. Field goal. Touchdown. Never a twist or turn just to throw the defense off. It will be truly interesting to see what a new OC brings to this young team.

While I'm ready for a change after this season as well, I will say that I saw a few first down pass attempts. If I recall correctly, those drives ended in punts. And that, to me, us the real problem. I don't think play calling was problematic at all today, but execution sometimes was. Now, if you want to argue that our execution against an inferior Indiana team should be better, I could probably get with that and understand that this also falls upon the coaching staff.

Succinct and correct, IMO. Even the one WR screen we saw at long last went for a loss because Philly knelt down to catch it.

Loved seeing the wheel route to Boren -- he needs to get a look every game.

Sure, but does it have to be this bad?

OSU is in a seemingly never-ending cycle of a true freshman/soph QB who has the cuffs put on him, we run the ball every down, then he eventually maturates and we have a top-50 offense.

The question I'd like to pose is this:

As a freshman, how inferior is Braxton Miller to other QBs out there?

When I think of Braxton, I believe he's one of the best athletes out there to of play the position as a freshman. However, when you compare his output to that of other true frosh QBs at other schools like Colt McCoy, Matt Barkley, Aaron Murray, and so on.. It just seems like he's under-performing. Not because he doesn't make plays. Not because he can't do things, but because the playcalling is to tepid to take full advantage of guys that Ohio State recruits on offense.

Ohio State has recruited some of the most beastly offensive and defensive players, who have made their mark in the NFL, yet the offensive production always lags... Why? Why must we accept top-50 offenses only when we have a lot of seniors, when other teams can do it nearly year in and year out?

No problems with the play calling this game. We threw enough to keep indiana honest, so in turn that opened up some huge holes for us in the run game. The passing game wasn't that effective but the play calling showed that Bollman had confidence in Braxton to put it in the air, at least against indiana. For Braxton to continue to improve he needs repititions of seeing the field in these game situations and he'll get better and better with the more reps he gets. Braxton sees the field well on some plays and on others he locks onto a receiver. He still takes too many sacks and could throw the ball away on a few of those situations. I'm honestly real impressed with how well he handles pressure and he has made huge strides in his confidence since his first start. Cant wait to watch him next week. Our run game was really impressive. The defense played extremely well last week but watching them this week was a little scary.
