Jim Bollman (Stay calm and run Dave)

Sure, but does it have to be this bad?

OSU is in a seemingly never-ending cycle of a true freshman/soph QB who has the cuffs put on him, we run the ball every down, then he eventually maturates and we have a top-50 offense.

The question I'd like to pose is this:

As a freshman, how inferior is Braxton Miller to other QBs out there?

When I think of Braxton, I believe he's one of the best athletes out there to of play the position as a freshman. However, when you compare his output to that of other true frosh QBs at other schools like Colt McCoy, Matt Barkley, Aaron Murray, and so on.. It just seems like he's under-performing. Not because he doesn't make plays. Not because he can't do things, but because the playcalling is to tepid to take full advantage of guys that Ohio State recruits on offense.

Ohio State has recruited some of the most beastly offensive and defensive players, who have made their mark in the NFL, yet the offensive production always lags... Why? Why must we accept top-50 offenses only when we have a lot of seniors, when other teams can do it nearly year in and year out?

/rant over

Colt McCoy and Matt Barkley are true pocket passing quarterbacks - of course they are going to have more success in the passing game early in their careers. Our offense relies more on a dual-threat QB. We have an assload of talent, yes, but I can't think of many single dual threat QBs who came in and lit up opposing defenses consistantly in the passing game in their first year as a starter.

Colt McCoy ran for over 1400 yards and 17 touchdowns in his last 3 years. Calling him a true pocket passer is inaccurate.

He wasn't brought in to Texas for his ability to run. In his first year as a starter, he had 170 yards rushing with 2 TDs. That is 2.5 yards per carry. Not that much of a threat, IMO. He developed an ability to run the ball, but he was always more of a threat to throw it.

So you would define Colt McCoy as a dual threat QB early in his career? explain, please...

as usual, when called out on something that you are clearly wrong about you try to re-frame the argument into something that it is not

Colt McCoy has never and will never be a true pocket passing quarterback, regardless of how many yards he had rushing his freshman year at Texas, nice try though

Nice way to avoid the question.
I stand by my statement. He is not a dual threat QB. As a runner, he is more of a scrambler. And his arm strength is weak, but he's definately more of a pocket passer than a running threat.

It's weird, I kind of feel like everybody is right about everything here. Consistency of positions, Colt starting off as a passer, etc.

Also, McCoy was a whining douche. He never really accomplished anything, he would just complain and cry about everything Spock and Kirk did. Whatever.
