Jim Bollman (Stay calm and run Dave)

Can we get a vBet on the date time this ------ gets his pink slip?

Nope - and no name-calling, please.

Luke has limited options. Who on the current can he have set up a game plan and do the play-calling? If he wants to remove that from Bollman and Siciliano, that seems to leave Stan Drayton, John Peterson and Dick Tressel. Some folks may say Drayton is the answer, but he may not be ready to be a full-fledged OC. Personally, I have to say that it's hard to believe that things could get any worse, so I wouldn't be upset by such a move (making Drayton the OC, leaving Bollman as the O-Line coach).

The other option is to hire somebody form the outside, but there are limited options in mid-season. Mike Leach is out of work, but trying to implement such a drastic change (his wide-open offense, with big splits in the O-line) without a set of fall practices sounds like a recipe for disaster. It's hard to believe that Leach would come in just to call plays, without having time to implement his system.

Out of curiousity, is there anyone out there that thinks he should be the OC / OL coach next season?

Next season? Try the past five seasons.

And I think the answer around these parts is a resounding 'no'.

I've completely lost faith in Bollman - and it seems like the team is getting there. Not a good to start LF's tenure as HC...

Only 5? When I joined this site in 2004 we were having this same conversation...

I'm just afraid that Taylor Graham will transfer before he gets a true chance. Like Ryan Mallett at Michigan. Mallett ended up being the real deal.

I don't know that Graham is Ryan Mallett or Todd Boeckman. But we need to get him a shot. And please don't tell me that they have a lot of time "invested" in Braxton Miller, 'cause if they've been coaching him up it hasn't done any good.

I should say, the whole offense. I know Braxton can't do anything when he's being sacked 7 or 8 times, pressured, and the coaching staff shows no confidence in him.

You know, the more I type the more pissed off I get so I'll just end here and say that we need offensive coaching, during the week and game day.

I say give Guiton his chance, and then Graham.

Dudes, this ain't workin'.
Were you in section 22B for the Colorado game?

That might work for a coach who is under contract for the next few years. Who would want to come in as the offensive coordinator for seven games, only to be let go when the new head coach comes in and brings in his guys.

It doesn't take experience to know that you shouldn't run slow developing play-action draw plays on third and long when the defense is blitzing, yet we did that over and over on Saturday under Bollman.

And to make it even worse we did this with 25 seconds left in the half.

Our second team has more tallent then 50% of NCAA schools yet we are 111th in total offense. Even under JT I do not remember our offense being in the top 25 with the exception of Troy Smith's senior year.

Somebody who wants to make good $ in a few short months. That person could then interview for the HC job.

I'm not shy about my critiquing of Bollman and I haven't been since 2004. Obviously the kids love him, but he's a liability. What Bollman knows is run them over power football. Nothing wrong with that. However, football has evolved and it's no longer about JUST power football. He, like Jim Tressel, has his bread and butter plays that know and have been calling for a long time with various levels of success; when something isn't working, go back to what you know. The problem is when you don't have the horses to the race or the opposite has scouted you so well, they know what is coming.

Back to the evolution of the game of football. Routes are more complicated, plays are more innovative, trick plays are prevalent, and it's like a chess match. Which coach can outscheme the opponent? I know the coaches travel across the country each off season bringing back new tips and ideas. There's more than meets the eye for that to be successful. Sure, OSU has run spread sets and pony sets and read option sets, but how successful have they been? Do the coaches really know what they need to know to teach these different plays. The ins and outs and the nuances that someone who's an expert would know? I'm going to say no and that's where it hurts OSU. Therein lies the problem with execution.

Bollman's other job is offensive line coach. He knows more about football than I will ever know, that is apparent. Zone blocking is complicated. Calls need to be made, they need to be correct, and they need to be executed. Often we witness blitzes missed, free defenders, or just a general lack of 'push'. Maybe it should be simplified? There's a lot of offensives lines out there that go out an execute with much less talent.

In summary, I don't like the way that Bollman calls games (gameplan and changes), I don't like the execution of the plays that are called, and I think the offensive line needs to dumb things down and fire off the ball.

I can't deny that he is indeed, much more knowledgeable in coaching the game of football than I, but he really seems to have forgotten that we should strive to score more points than our opponent.
