Jim Bollman (Stay calm and run Dave)

I don't think there's a need for a new playbook. Our current playbook obviously features spread sets and power sets. The issue seems to be the understanding of how to use our players in those sets, and when to use them. For example, calling power (I-form) sets with Braxton, and spread sets with Baus. Rolling out Baus, and keeping Braxton in the pocket.

You speak the truth. We don't put our scheming and play calling with certain players is awful. Why does every pass play need to be 20-30 yards down the field? Quick passes to get BM a rhythm seem to be in order. Run - Pass - 3rd and long every series is just ludicrous. I couldn't figure out why at the end of the half and game that Hyde was in instead of Hall.

Got great seats yesterday in A deck...if I had watched the game at home yesterday I'd have been seething...but being in the stands I was able to see the whole field and understand a little more. It was painfully obvious that when Braxton was under center it was a run...watching the MSU safties walk down into the box and the LB's run blitz on this formation every time was borderline commical. Then Watching OSU forced to keep both TE's in to block on obvious passing downs with 3 WR's running 30 yard go routes against single coverage and still not get open against an 8 man rush...well, it was just very disappointing to watch. Bollman did not appear to have the ability to find the right play call(s) to keep Sparty off balance on defense or get his talent in to a rhytm. Penalties didn't help, either...it really looked like OSU was not prepared on the offensive side of the ball and what few adjustments the Bucks made, MSU countered, usually within the same drive.
New blood may be necessary but I wouldn't call for it until the off season. Nothing at all could be gained making a change in mid season. Must circle the wagons and go forward as men do.
Go Bucks!

I don't even know how to describe my frustration with the offensive playcalling, Our line got destroyed all game. Our plays were predictable. Everyone around me was pretty much calling the plays and then we'd all laugh at how often we were right. Where were the rollouts? Screens? Options? It's just disheartening to see us try to run the same thing every down of every series.

Thanks. It is always good to get this kind of perspective. I can never tell what the receivers are doing while I watch TV.

I've seen other teams run this play that they called a screen pass. It seemed to work pretty well at slowing down an aggressive pass rush, and Jordan might be able to do something with it if he got some open field. We should incorporate some of those into our offense.

I believe a player mentioned that they run those in practice. Are they so unsuccessful in practice that they can't run them in a game? Certainly can't be worse than option rollout after rollout we saw in the earlier games with Baus...

I am hoping we see more of this when Boom comes back. We will see.

According to Jordan, they practiced these during this week's prep, but didn't bring them into play (obviously).

The offensive line got owned repeatedly. Horrible outing by everyone.
WRs not getting open till MSU went "prevent". Need to get Posey and Philly up to speed, quick. Hope Reed is OK?
Maybe with Adams and Posey and Herron back we get a "spark" on offense. After all, the 3 are top line players.
We could be really surprised by how much a difference the 3 make for this offense.

Have to disagree a little.

The wide receivers were open the entire 4th quarter after Joe B came in. I know this because I stopped watching the pathetic play around the LOS and watched the receivers for the entire quarter. So it wasn't just after MSU went into the prevent. There was an open receiver (or two) on every play.

I don't know about the 1st three quarters as I was focused on the pathetic play around the LOS during that time.

The bottom line is that receivers are going to be covered in some semblence during football games. Our quarterbacks need to learn to fit the ball into coverage and throw it where the receiver can catch it. Other teams quarterbacks do this with alarming frequency. It's the job of a college quarterback and our guys damned well had better learn to do it and quickly.

There were receivers open throughout the game for both QB's. When Braxton threw the pick at the 5, he had a wide open receiver down the middle. A little pump fake to the corner pulling the safety over and hit the player in the seam for a TD.

The pisser of the interception is that the OSU receiver needed to fight for that ball and win.
