My original position was to point out that Coach Fickell would still be doing his defensive thing and that he was going to leave the offense to the offensive staff.

What did you expect him to say during the press conference? But, hey, you wanna thump your chest about the vBet, just go ahead and link the post (I'm pretty sur you have it bookmarked) and I'll have an admin transfer the amount from my vCash stash to yours...

I wonder why he didn't use the other 9 years of data available to him?

The OSU offense has been pretty good the last half of '09 and pretty much all of '10 just like it was for most of '05 and '06. Other than that its been the noticeably deficient phase of the team during the Tressel/Bollman era.

It's all good Mililani. Sorry about getting your blood pressure up. I was having some fun. If you remember back, I think you were the one to bring the vCash bet into the discussion in the first place. While it wasn't bookmarked, I did remember the thread.

I'll make you a 10-1 vBet that Fickell is involved in the play calling. Deal?

Make it 500,000 vCash. A little more than half of what I have.

I really don't want any hard feelings about that stuff.... I just know about how those inner workings are on that staff. I thought folks would appreciate some insight....

Thanks for the 5 mil(ilani).. It's a drop in the bucket for you... lol... again, all in good fun... Take care.

yards don't matter, points do.

and to get even more specific regarding the points is a stat that isn't even published. it's not an offensive stat or a defensive stat, but a stat that takes all three aspects of the game into account. that stat is the efficiency metric of yards/point, and the lower that number the better. the most powerful, efficient teams win the field position battle and capitalize on the short field.

conversely the most powerful and efficient teams make the other team travel many more yards per point, so with the defensive efficiency stat, the higher the yards/point, the better.

total offense is nice, but it doesn't tell the whole story, and is misleading. NoD put up huge offensive numbers under Weis. they weren't efficient at all, and Cheeseburger is now an offensive coordinator again. VaTech rarely racks up big offensive numbers (41st total, 21st scoring last season), yet Beamer ball gets them to 10 wins more often than not (12 of the last 16 seasons.)

just sayin'...

It may have been Akron, but regardless, Bolls deserves some congrats for his play-calling efforts on Saturday! I loved it, pounded the ball at them and used the play-action smartly, good old fashioned power football.

The offensive line also played very well.

Great job coach, lets hope Saturday is an indicator of how the season will be!

The offense is purely his show now. Perhaps Tress held him back a little bit while he was here and we just didn't know it...

No perhaps about it. Loved the playcalling, Akron or no.

Joe was given a package of plays to succeed, and Braxton was given a different package of plays to succeed (roll outs to one side of the field with only two reads).

Really, it should be pointed out that the game management by the entire staff was exceptional. There were a couple of busted plays which we'll probably never know if it was wrong signals or a bunch of young pups not knowing their assignments, but there were no wasted timeouts for substitutions or personel packages, and no indecision by the staff on situations. Couldn't have gone better for Coach Fickell.

i'm pretty sure we can put the notion of Tressel holding Bollman back to bed now...

Truer words have never been spoken on a Buckeye Forum. JT was in total control of this offense and the qb`s. Now these guys have no leader and lost the braintrust. I wouldnt have expected them to work wonders without him....but they seem to be struggling worse than I expected. I think JT would have seen early on to groom BM to make a few reads and get positive yards with his feet.....much like he did with TP and TS early on. I am a little surprised they didnt come up with the same thing....maybe JB is one hell of a practice player. Go Bucks
