Jets vs. Browns (Preseason)

Well, the run D has been stout, but it looks like the secondary is getting diced up. I know it's early in the preseason, but that is the one area of this team that really concerns me...especially considering some of the offenses they're gonna be facing this year.

I haven't followed the injuries or if/when the 2nd team may have gone in, but the defense was definitly porous at times against the Jets. Run defense did look better, secondary not so much. With the defensive lineman being shoddy last year, hopefully a lack of depth in the secondary doesn't cause any problems.

Unless Bernie has a serious drinking problem, I believe he may actually slur his words when he speaks. Either way, I'm not going to fault him. Hes one of the most beloved players in Brown's history, he was a supporter of bringing the Browns back to Cleveland, and had it not been for some Elway magic he was the last legitamate QB to have a chance at the Super Bowl.
Despite the fact Bernie sounds inebriated, he has a tremendious knowledge of the game. Hes great as a color commentator, if you look up articles about Bernie people comment on his wit and knowledge, even outside the game of football. Hell, I know it was Miami, but he gratuated in 3 years with a double major. Hes very insiteful, wish he had the time/wanted to do commentary with Donnovan on all the games.

I watched a replay of Miami vs. Penn State from 1979 the other day, and the replay included some commentary/interviews from Kosar and Schnellenberger. Kosar didn't seem to slur his speech when I was watching that. Living in Bengals country I can't watch tonight, so I can't hear him to tell if there's a difference.

Even if he is drunk, who cares? The man isn't flying a plane or teaching second grade - he's talking football and probably sounding more intelligent than 3/4 of the national personalities do when they're sober.

Harry Caray became a legend doing that.

Bengal country? I'm there too, just south of the Dayton mall and getting it on Channel 7

Yeah, I'm a little further south and don't get Dayton stations on Time Warner Cable here.

Besides, Dayton is hardly Bengal country. There's plenty of Browns and Steelers fans up there.

Quite honestly I'm surprised that when I said I was in Bengal country nobody asked how I ended up in jail. :tongue2:

So what does Farrve do if they tell him he has to compete for his job with Brett Ratliff?

So, somebody with some eyes on this game... tell me what's going on with the pass defense? Specifically, who is getting burned on these deep passes? Are they just scrubs, or scrubs that we're gonna have to actually count on this year?

Looks like the Jets third string offense is better than the Browns third string defense. It only takes one preseason game to remind me why I'll never actually pay to attend one.

The good news? The real games start in 4 weeks. :)

It's good to see Martin Rucker involved in this game with four catches. I think he can be a solid contributor to this team by the end of the season, and I think the Browns got a steal when they picked him.
