Jet's so serial: PSU = RIVALS!!!1!!11!

Can't they be both?

No.

What is there record the last 10 years vs. OSU? 1-9? Does that make them any less of a rival?
Yes.

Does that make them any less of a rival?

Not having a HBO special does.

Does that make them any less of a rival?

Yes. I could do this all day.

For me it's geographical location...that plays into it.
I choose Brazil and can't wait for the Volleyball match up.

Fan interaction...personally has been one of the most passionate in terms of arguments I've ever had. Even over Michigan

When every loss is the FAULT of the refs, and every win is because of their "dear leader" it doesn't matter.

Competition does play a part in it...and PSU has been competitive with OSU (13-16).

The difference is even if scUM was 0-11 going into "The Game", they'd be dangerous, PSU would not.
,
History plays into it and while not on par with the history that OSU/UM has it still dates back to the 50's.

tOSU won National Championships in the 50's, so did MSU, Iowa, and future BIG 10'r Maryland...again pumpkin PSU.

Is it even close to UM/OSU...god no.
Holy shit! We agree!

But saying they are a rival doesn't take away from any other rivalry IMHO.

I don't even want to play PSU. I'd want to play scUM any day of the week. Feel free to call who you want, whatever you want.

I think PSU is a rival for us, obviously not thee rival, but they are one in my opinion.

Is the series steeped in history, nope but it is early in the series and there have been some close/big games in the series and blowouts going each way that left a sour taste in each fan bases mouth. Being that Ohio State is PSU's closest B1G member (until next year) has helped build up the potential for a good rivalry. Their fan base hates us and we hate their fan base. All the ingredients are there for these two institutions to be bitter rivals. I personally don't go on series records but rather instinct. I do look forward to playing the likes of a Wisconsin and Ped State (and obviously scUM) as opposed to Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, and the like. Because of those schools fan bases, coaches, players I love seeing Ohio State beat them.

I am not going to chastise (although I likely will) anyone who does not think PSU is a rival as it is your opinion, but they are to me while not being our main rival.

I understand your argument, but I disagree. I hate Penn State because of their fans defense of child rape and boorish behavior/whining, not for any victory they have had on the football field. Put another way: Does PSU see us as a rival? Yes, yes they do. Do we see them as a rival? No, not really.

If the B1G switched PSU with Nebraska, would you or anyone you know write angry emails to Delany? They TALKED about possibly changing the date of The Game and Buckeyes and weasels both went batshit.

In twenty more years, PSU could be a minor rival. They aren't really close yet
