Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

The very first time one of our silver bullets tattoo's someone in the new jersey, we'll be dancing and spilling beer just like we did with the old ones.

Lets just be happy that we have some of the nations best talent to put underneath it.

This is the first I noticed this, and it could very well be due to the angle that JT is holding the jersey. But doesn't the new jersy to look like the stripes are on an angle, a la USC?

Again, i think that this is probably the way he is holding it... God I hope it is only the way he is holding the jersey.

Tha shoulder pads probably stretch the material out so the stripes are by the arms.

And yes, this is rather trivial. On the bright side though, www.buckeyecorner.com is selling all old-style jerseys at half off! So for all you folks that are teetering on the ledge, step back down and grab a few of these guys.

When they change these jerseys in 8-10 years the OSU faithful will all be back on here defending the same ones that are being bashed right now.

I highly doubt that. I also doubt these jerseys will last 8-10 years.

Never seen so many pantywaste Bravo! watching metros in my life...

Its a normal, classic looking football jersey. Is there sequence or neon on it that im missing? Geesh.

Maybe you should read back a page or two and see why folks don't like the change. It's not about "fashion", it's about tradition. The home jersey doesn't have a single bit of grey on it. The road jersey will have so little grey it'll be all but invisible.

I'll echo my previous comment, I like these jerseys. I think a lot of fans are being pretty idiotic here........this topic made CNNSI's college football page. Give the national news another condascending article to write, thats a good idea. It makes OSU fans look a bit petty ........whining over a lack of gray on a jersey. I'm just thankful that we have a kick ass program........who cares about what they wear when they play?

Tradition must have been rebuked in the 80's too......because these jersey's look quite bit like that era.

First, fuck what CNNSI says...is that blunt enough? Second, I don't think OSU caring about tradition and appearance is petty or idiotic. Hell, if it doesn't matter, then why don't we just go a bland-ass Penn State type uniform? As for the jerseys looking like the '80s versions, they are nearly identical...and we didn't exactly have the greatest success in the world in them (aside from 1979).

Buckeyes fans uniformly disdain jersey changes

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2406332

Ohio State football fans are seeing red this week, thanks to a slight change in the school's football uniforms.
The school introduced a new uniform that features slightly different stripes on the sleeves and changes the pattern (to scarlet-white-black from scarlet-white-black-gray). The sleeve is also slightly longer.
Reaction has been swift and strong, according to Wednesday's Columbus Dispatch, which said that it received 734 votes in a poll on its Web site, topping the prevous record of 433 for a question on same-sex marriage (and more than the usual 100-200 responses).
The newspaper said 79 percent of fans responding were against the new uniform.
"I can't believe this is happening. I can't even concentrate on typing this message because I'm so angry," one fan wrote into the newspaper. Another compared the change to "New Coke."
Ohio State noted that it isn't the first time the uniform had changed. Woody Hayes won three national titles (1954, '57 and '68) with three different uniforms. Ohio State wore uniforms without gray on them for 10 seasons in the mid-'50s.
Former coaches Earle Bruce and John Cooper also changed uniform styles slightly, both told the Dispatch. There was little outcry.
"I don't know that jerseys ever lost a football game," Bruce told the Dispatch.
Head coach Jim Tressel was surprised at the reaction.
"If you put three jerseys up over the last 10 years, I'm not sure which one we're going out there in," Tressel told the Dispatch. "Probably in the last 20 years, we've had four or five different stripings and pipings and all that kind of thing."
Ohio State's uniform pants were slightly shinier last season, thanks to a new fabric.
Ohio State's uniforms are made by Nike, causing some fans to accuse the school of changing to sell more uniforms. Ohio State has a six-year, $11.4 million deal with Nike. School officials said no, and that Nike didn't push for the change.
"In our case, we're going to sell jerseys regardless," athletics department spokesman Steve Snapp told the Dispatch. "We don't have to change our jersey to increase sales."

Obviously OSU or their admin isn't too concerned.......it's the fans (such as yourself) that are. You act like they changed their colors.......were talking about a damn gray stripe........why get so worked up over it? I wouldn't care if they went the Penn St. route........I still would get to watch them on Saturdays. The end result is still the same, they are still the Buckeyes.

You have a strong opinion about this, and I respect that. I value the tradition of OSU's program, as does about any other fan on this board. I guess I am not going to let something so miniscule get me worked up, because I know that there isn't a damn thing I can do about it.

My advice for the people that don't like the jersey is pretty simple.......don't buy it. And if that isn't enough, don't watch their home games, or switch to a black and white TV.

I'll withold final judgement until I see them in person...........until then, I'm going to find better things to get worked up about.

Of course the OSU admin isn't concerned...right now. Many on the admin probably aren't strong football fans...in fact, some probably could give a shit. Let's see how they feel when jersey sales are way off.

Of course the fans are going to be the ones most outspoken, because we're fans. That should go without saying.

Now, personally I'm not as pissed off as the character that tole the Dispatch, "I can't believe this is happening. I can't even concentrate on typing this message because I'm so angry". But, I don't like the change and think they could've could up with something considerably better.

I think we're seeing a little of JT returning to his good ol' days when he was an assistant coach here...it's a little more than coincidence that that jerseys are virtually identical to the ones we had when he was here before.

Just a thought... I'm not sure when the notion to sell jerseys came about. I know that you couldn't buy them while I was a student 1961 - 1971. (Yeah, it took me ten years to get a bachelor's, 4 years of military and a year of working in a factory and 5 years of going to school). The only people who had jerseys were the players themselves and I don't recall them ever wearing a jersey except for those all cotton red or white parctice jerseys. You had to know someone to get a hold of one of the practice jerseys. So the controversy has something to do with the (relatively) new found abilty to own and wear a jersey just like the one the team wears.
