Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

ok well i edited the red jerseys to give them gray in the sleeve just like the away jerseys. in my opinion it doesnt flow well. the white is needed for some contrasting color to give it a good look however there needs to be improvement somewhere because leaving it the way it is just makes it look too red and no gray so ill work something up there.

modified with gray cuff:

If you also make the numbers gray on the home jerseys, I'll bet that would look great.
I was going to post something about that earlier, then JWins posted a pic or two with the grey numbers, and it indeed looked very classy.

meh im not a big fan of the whole gray numbers thing. i think it takes away from the contrast that red/white has and red/white makes the jersey more distinct in my opinion. i went to new lengths to put some subtle cues of gray on the red jersey and you can check it out. i modeled it off of miamis jerseys but i only used the stitchline instead of the whole area that miami uses.

I have no idea what the problem is with the stripes on the side of the jersey ... As other people have noticed, the helmets aren't even gray, they're shiny silver (which I think looks way cooler anyway!) It would be cool if they changed the pants back to the 2004 shiny silver to match the helmets better, those looked sharp.

To be honest, I think the reason they don't look good when you see the actual pictures (not the illustrations) is that the color is not the same scarlet of the old jersey's ... it appears noticebly darker. It's almost the same shade of red that wisonsin's new jersey's are. If the jersey's didn't look the EXACT shade of ohio state scarlet of last years and all the years before that ... now you've got something valid to bitch about.

I always thought silver brought out the best in gray. (Just watched our LadyBucks softball team last month in Palm Springs; thought their unis had a very "tired" gray and washed-out "scarlet". Not very becoming.) Wonder what silver borders or highlights on any gray color would look like on fb jerseys? Silver really makes the gray and scarlet jump out. jmo.

OSU has used washed out grey pants in the past... I don't think that makes it better. The helmets (first) are outstanding, a strong grey tone with stripes and stickers that pop off the helmet, especially the white. I felt the same way about the pants that were discontinued after 2004.

If there is nothing wrong with 'barely grey' pants, then why does this matching grey helmet (second) look so weak and bland? I think the picture speaks for itself.

The pants do not have to match in terms of shine, but they really need to be a deeper grey than last year. Hopefully the promise/rumor of more grey in the pants come true.

agreed SCB... georgia got very similar upgrades IMO. They still had a traditional look, but all of their colors were matte... similar dull, light gray pants.

I’ve been reading message boards for years, but have never desired to post anything. However, this uniform change has moved me to make a few comments:
<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
1. We had the “new” stripes on the sleeves in the 80s. They looked terrible then.
<O:p</O:p

2. Archie Griffin called. He wants his pants back. The black stripes on the pants are way too thick. Has anyone else noticed that they’ve gradually been getting thicker the past few years? Another question: If everything is supposed to match, then why is there such an egregious disproportion between the black stripes on the helmet and jersey from those on the pants?
<O:p</O:p

3. The silver (not gray) pants worn from the early Cooper years to 2004 were shiny and awesome. The newer gray pants are drab and boring. Furthermore, the scarlet jerseys bleed through them. (note Rob Schoenhoft standing next to Ginn in the picture modified by jwinslow.)

<O:p</O:pMy alma mater used to have arguably the coolest, and, quite frankly, the most bad-a$$ uniforms in all of college football. (See any picture of A.J. Hawk posted on this forum.) The changes over the past two years (pants in 2005, jersey 2006) have destroyed this reality.<O:p</O:p

Are we going to be wearing these for the Spring Game?

From what I gathered at the Spring Preview, the Jersey they auctioned there was the only one produced to date...maybe I misunderstood, but that's what I thought they said...so I'm not sure if they plan on having them ready or using them by the 22nd.

I read in the Spingfield paper that the jerseys are avaiable for purchase directly from Nike as of now, so I would imagine that if they want the jerseys by then, that they could have them.

After stepping away from the ledge...

I've thought it over for the past couple of days, and considered that my original opinion may have been clouded for my love of tradition. I have now come to the conclusion that I was right the first time. They look like shit.
