Ohio State is changing its football jerseys?

Believe it.

OSU coach Jim Tressel unveiled the updated look for the 2006 and beyond at the 15th annual Spring Preview in Columbus on Wednesday.

All in all, the changes are cosmetic. The jersey is more form-fitting and has less fabric around the sleeves. The most noticable differences are that they gray stripes are gone; and the player's "TV numbers" are moving from the shoulders to the sleeves. The new sleeve stripes are thinner and mimic the ones on the OSU helmet.

The jersey, made by Nike, also contains a fabric designed to wick moisture and cool the body. It is on sale for $49.95 in the OSU team shop at http://www.hangonsloopy.com.

<H1 class=red>Throw back OSU jersey or keep it?

Ohio State has taken the "Gray" out of Scarlet and Gray - at least on the football team's new jerseys.

OSU coach Jim Tressel unveiled the updated look for the 2006 jerseys at the 15th an nual Spring Preview in Colum bus on Wednesday.

All in all, the changes are cosmetic. The most noticeable differ ences are the gray stripes are gone, and players' "TV num bers" are moving from the shoulders to the sleeves. The new sleeve stripes are thinner and mimic the ones on the OSU helmet. The jersey also is more form-fitting and has less fabric around the sleeves.

Traditionalists out there should not be alarmed. The new look actually is similar to the kind of jersey worn by the Chris Spielman-era Buckeyes of the mid-1980s.

Replica jerseys are on sale for $49.95 in the OSU team shop at www.hangonsloopy.com.

So, which jersey do you like better - old or new? Log on to www.cleveland.com/osu to vote.

Day 3 of the "New Jersey": The words "donkey doo doo" come trippingly to the tongue. I still prefer "looks like shit." "A throwback to the Chris Spielman days," the Cleveland Plain Dealer tells us, neatly avoiding the fact that it is also a throw back to Art Schliester. The Cincinnati Enquirer can no longer afford a staffer to rip stuff off the wires and post it, so the controversy is a non-issue in Ohio's second city... besides, the locals think the big state university is spelled N-O-T-R-E D-A-M-E.

Can we say "generic" here? Aside from the fact that the new jersey is in step with space age technology, this is a step toward looking like all the other "smart teams" out there. The plain fact is that it is a gift to Nike. New jersey = kids with money in their pocket who will buy new anything. Want proof? Look at all the idiots in this town who bought one of four "New Bengals' Jerseys" last year. The locals look like their playing in pumpkin colored bib Levis.

On the bright side, there are uglier uniforms out there. The afore mentioned Bengals come to mind, leaders remain on the west coast with the seasquawks and Oregoneoutofmymind, Penn State and Texas with their practice-to-game-one-uni-fits-all mentality...

Come on Tress... say it isn't so. Admit they look like shit and change.

Heres the problem as I see it...the best thing about the 80s is that they ended...I understand wanting to apply new technology to the uni's but come on no grey on the jersey? And, they looked like crap then and they look like crap now.

After reading most of this thread, some of you are acting like they changed the helmet....they made a few minor cosmetic changes that actually resemble the uniforms in the 80's in my opinion.....
Exactly. When I first saw the replica, I was a little alarmed; but after seeing the mock-ups of what the guys will be wearing, they don't look so bad to me...I actually think the road whites will look pretty sharp.

Just b/c it was done before doesn't mean it's a good idea to return to that style... we also used to have black numbers, but that would also be a horrible idea (black does not show up well on scarlet, which is exactly why the grey stripes were better). If it had been just the jersey, it would be one thing... but they took the grey out of the pants the year before.

Voted for the old ones, but don't mind these. I've always preferred the roads over the homes, can't tell you why. Good to see that they didn't go only white and scarlet on the roads, like the NY football Giants did on theirs. I do wish they would have had some players ready to model them, thankfully no one as ugly as Jad Dean.

Well at least the 2006 uniforms will have grey pants instead of an almost white pant. I dont see why the stripes on the pants do not correspond with the stripes that are on the helmet and jersey. All in all the team will look good and play well. Not everyone likes change. Hell this might only be a one season thing.

ok well i edited the red jerseys to give them gray in the sleeve just like the away jerseys. in my opinion it doesnt flow well. the white is needed for some contrasting color to give it a good look however there needs to be improvement somewhere because leaving it the way it is just makes it look too red and no gray so ill work something up there.

i think its still the same pants from 06. i think they just appear gray because they are without light on them. that will be one downfall in the whole uni. it will be dull and lack the luster of scarlet and gray and will be matte colors.
