Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

College football is so much about tradition. It seems a shame to throw that out when it comes to what you see the actual players wear during an actual game. You know, the football part of football tradition.

Not that there should never be change, but the speed and reasoning behind change here is ridiculous. In five years we'll look back at pictures and have only a vague guess as what teams are depicted without squinting at logos or looking for captions. For that matter, not being able to see the score boxes on the screens at BW3 could make it just as confusing next week.

Next up: Players gathering to sing the post-game Nike jingle, and just to mix things up, the new game ball - sponsored by Nerf!

It's about THE Ohio State University - which is SCARLET & GRAY. So go fucking tell those cocksuckers at Nike up in Oregon it isn't about them either.

edit: note, this isn't directed at anyone here. I understand some people like it and are entitled to their opinion. People liking them doesn't bother me. Nike forcing this bullshit does however.

I agree with you. I hate that Nike is even pushing this shit.

We just sound like a bunch of fucking Nancy's bickering about some shit we can't control.

The amount of bitching being done over some fucking once-a-year jerseys is tiresome. If you don't want to see tOSU wear black, if they ever do, just don't watch the fucking game. Listen to it on the radio like the good ol' days and you can imagine them in neon green if it gives you a hard-on.

Whether they wear black, green, brown, or orange they still represent The Ohio State University. If you don't like it, tough shit. It's not about you, me or any other person not on the team.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Yertle has six years on you here, Mr. Black Jersey. Calm yourself the [censored] down on the derogatory [Mark May].

So what? He made a personal attack on me for giving my opinion on a football jersey, one in which we don't even know what it truly looks like. How does the amount of time on the boards matter. I have more buckeye leaves than Yertle, does that make me a better poster, no. I wasn't trying to start anything, just giving my opinion on the matter. I don't see what you and some other posters on this board have against me. I have never talked badly about anyone on here, ever. I am somewhat disapointed in the behavior that has transpired on this particular topic today. There is no other website I visit more than Buckeyeplanet and I enjoy talking about all things Buckeyes, but if this is how some people are going to treat fellow Buckeye fans, I'm not going to want to visit very often...

We will anxiously await your decision.

My thoughts...

Jersey colors and such aren't the issue in my IMHO. Not that I love Adidas or Under Armour (esp after the Maryland fiasco), but I still cannot fathom how any major program would "partner" with Nike, given that those profits/funds are invested back into a rival program.

Granted, not a perfect example, but if Phil Knight were a Mich1gAAn alum/booster/megalomaniac, we'd have nothing to do with it.

So why help support a program that is, in many ways, "the enemy"?

Here's my personal opinion.

The Ohio State University, as well as the football team is built on tradition. We have probably one of the biggest fan bases in the entire country, and because we are the biggest University in the country, a lot of those fans are alumni, who attended Ohio State, went to games, etc. Since 1890 when the first Ohio State football game happened, they've worn scarlet and gray every time in the 121 years since.

That's a lot of tradition there, and a lot of our fanbase (As well as other fanbases that are having uniforms tinkered with) don't take kindly to people messing with tradition, and for good reason. And, that's certainly a legitimate position to take on things, and I respect it. I agree, all black isn't tradition.

There's also a side, that says it doesn't matter what they wear. Personally, IDGAF if they came on the field in rainbow shirts and short skirts, the uniform isn't what makes them Ohio State. It's playing in The Shoe, it's walking those same hallowed halls and sharing that same locker room as guys like Woody, Bo, Archie, Paul Brown, Eddie, Troy, Tressel etc. (You get the point). It's understanding who came before them, what they did, and recognizing that they only way they can find a place amongst those names is to ball the fuck out and win regardless of whether they look like a bunch of highlighters or if Nike decided to do outfit them in digital camoflague.

If these unis are in fact Nike's designs, I have a few thoughts. They spit on the face of tradition, yes, that much is clear. But I think that they'll look good on the players, and in all reality as long as the players like them that's really all that matters.

I personally don't have a problem with GeorgiaBuck and normally agree with him on just about everything. He's allowed to have his opinion on this matter, just as the rest of us are. The cool thing about forums is that people can share their opinion and talk about shit. This place would be boring as hell if everyone agreed on everything.

ps: fuck Nike and fuck black uniforms!

Major greenies for the first to describe another type of Yertle from around the time BP was born. v10,000,000 if it's accompanied by the quote.

Yertle the Turtle? Dr. Seuss?

?I?m Yertle the Turtle!
Oh, marvelous me!
For I am the ruler of
all that I see!?

The book came out in 2004 - all I can think of unless I am missing an inside joke here haha
