The heritage behind the flag "appearing" backward is actually pretty simple.

The flag is to represent the days of when American Soldiers would march into battle with an actual flag stead fast and strong, the wind blowing against them, causing the flag to flow and appear "backwards."

Extra tidbit. The opposite canton (field with stars) is ONLY allowed on a military member's right sleeve; the left sleeve for a normal facing flag.

The reason why you never see a US Airman with an opposite canton patch is because USAF AFI 36-2903 (Dress reg) roughly states that (on a flight suit) a member will optionally wear a fully colored, regular canton flag patch on the left shoulder, and a Squadron patch on the wearers right.

Cool! Good information. I didn't know the reasoning behind the change, I just noticed the change on the modern style of uniforms in the 90's. I figured it was just a modernization kind of thing, i.e. you would never see an actual flag flying "forward" on any kind of vehicle in the 21st century military. The flag appearance while being carried into battle makes sense though.

I hope the Nike uniforms aren't always going to be the for The Game. I'm going to see them in the Shoe this year and two years from now as a student, and I would like to see the traditional uniform combination the second time since this time it is Pro Combat again...

The most baffling thing is that Nike is still promoting this a year later.

Why haven't they given us the technology for our regular uni's if it's so great?

Has anyone come out with a suggestion as to why all these uniforms look like they were purposely designed as a parody? How does a company like Nike produce this? Did more than one person agree that these were somehow good looking? Is this some sort of asinine attempt to appeal to a young target market? Did they just want to make absolutely sure that every single person watching had to ask themselves these same questions to somehow promote the recognition of the brand by any means possible?

I don't think Ill ever be able to look at another Nike product without invoking the memory of these uniforms. I mean Nike has just become something that I wouldn't be caught dead wearing. Why?

Love the uni's. You can't complain that these don't spill over with OSU heritage. Red helmets, the big white numbers, solid red jersey and grey pants...These uniforms are VERY much OSU in all aspects.

Again, can't say any more how much I love the flag. There is really nothing to complain about here.

Outside of not using the University's official colors, violating the flag code and commercializing military decorations?

I don't hate these like last year's abominations but there are certainly plenty of legitimate issues of complaint.

On the plus side at least they didn't have to dig up a bunch of dead miners for the Ohio State alternate. :)
