Michigan State plays Indiana next week. Their defense isn't exactly amazing. Iowa comes the week after that, and Ringer will have to play. And then comes Northwestern, and he should, once again, be able to take a breather. As long as Dantonio gives Ringer his required rest, he should be ready to play in all the games after Northwestern. Freshman back Andre Anderson isn't exactly terrible, so there shouldn't be that much of a fall whilst playing Indiana and Northwestern. Also long as Dantonio's defense does it's job, they should be fine. Still, Dantonio lacks the Caulcrick type of player this year who can complement Ringer.

If he doesn't give him the required rest, well, our game at Sparty should be a bit easier. Who knows.

Do you know what I refer to?
The incessant Javon Ringer for Heisman prattling. The superlatives heaped on him because he's run for 484 yards - while holding onto a football! - in just two games. The gushing that has not stopped, nor will stop, since Saturday afternoon and on into the autumn loam.
It's just not going to happen. Javon Ringer may be the best Spartan back since T.J., may be the best back in the nation in the first four games of this college season, may be a Spartan record setter, future NFL draft combine head-turner, soon-to-be Sunday fantasy league miracle worker ... he may be all of those things and more. I'll even go out on a limb and say he really IS that nice and humble and sweet of a kid.
But Javon Ringer will not win this year's Heisman Trophy. Sorry to be the nerd who knocks down the Jenga tower at the groovy party.
It's a two-front argument against Javon smiling and taking photos with a trophy in Manhattan this December. Reason No. 1? He's a Spartan. That sounds like I'm degrading our people, but I assure you up front I am not and encourage you to read on. Reason No. 2? The Short List. We'll work in numerical order.
A Spartan has never won the coveted Heisman Trophy, nor has a Spartan come close to winning the Heisman, inasmuch that a Spartan has never even finished second in the voting. We are not a Heisman people. But that's OK, because most schools aren't.

Javon Ringer keeps his focus

EAST LANSING -- Michigan State running back Javon Ringer is staying grounded in spite of the increased attention that's come his way after three consecutive game-changing performances, just as his coaches and teammates expected.

"He's so nonchalant about it. If anything, he probably doesn't want the media exposure," quarterback Brian Hoyer said. "As far as it goes, it won't be a distraction because of the type of person that he is."
Media attention has increased, and Ringer has made an appearance on ESPN's popular "Heisman Watch" list, gaining eight points (tied for seventh most) in the most recent poll from the network's analysts. Ringer is second in the nation in rushing with 699 yards and leads all rushers with 11 touchdowns.
"I still know that no matter what I'm able to do out there on the field, none of it's by myself," Ringer said. "I need my offensive line, my fullback and tight ends, our receivers and Brian -- they have to perform good as well. So it's not hard at all to share a lot of the exposure that's coming my way."
Senior strong safety Otis Wiley said Ringer hasn't changed much from the humble player who came to MSU with him in the 2005 class.

Ringer is now averaging over 37 carries a game this year :yow1: That's 7 more than any other player in the nation, it's not even close. cfbstats.com - 2008 National Player Leaders

Gotta say that worries me about his health long-term.

I've met Javon a few times when he was a JR at Dayton C-J at a few post season award banquets. He was a real cool dude when I met him. A friend of mine, Johnny Adams, plays at MSU now, and he says the same thing.

Of all the highlight runs and plays he has, this is the video that sums him up the best.

Seriously though, amazing start to Javon's season. I don't how he can keep up those numbers, but if he does...he's got to be considered for the Heisman. Right now, I'd say it's Ringer and Chase Daniel from Mizzou.

Michigan State University running back Javon Ringer, who prepped at Chaminade-Julienne High School, has surged into the top five in the weekly Scripps Howard News Service Heisman Trophy poll.
Ringer carried 44 times for 198 yards and a touchdown in the Spartans' 42-29 win at Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Ten voters select five players each week. Tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four for second, etc. First-place votes are in parentheses.

Hmm Mo Wells, Ringer or Sutton... tough call.

How does Clarett get into OSU but not Ringer? He's the son of a preacher man after all...

It's too bad he's lost a step off his top end or he'd be the true front runner for the Heisman right now.

He's going to need some huge moments vs OSU, uOFm, and PSU to close out the season. and based off his sub pedestrian game vs OSU last year I don't see that happening.

my understanding of the situation was that JT went to the OSU brass and asked personally to enroll him and they said. "negative ghostrider the pattern is full".

JT wanted Ringer, it just wasn't in the cards. I can't think of one rational Buckeyes fan that didn't want Ringer.

Yes I know all that, but it's seems where there is a will there is a way, it's not like he had legal issues or anything.

Perhaps it was more because of Clarett they couldn't take any chances, it's just odd because Ringer is and has proven to be such an ultra high character kid and we haven't heard one peep of him having any academic struggles.

I haven't watched and awful lot of MSU thus far this season. What types of running plays have most of his carries been this year?

In years past, it seems like most of them are pitches, toss sweeps, stretch plays, etc....slow developing plays that let him really use his vision and patience to pick and hit a hole. Is that a fair assessment or is he being used on more quick hitters up the middle this season with Jehuu' Caulcrick moved on?
