Javon Ringer (Former RB Michigan St.)

No offense to Mo Wells, but it's pretty clear that Javon has been a superior back over his career. Averaging over 7 a carry this year, on pace for about 1400-1500 yards...averaged over 6 a carry as a freshman. He's always been fun to watch.

Michigan State's Javon Ringer, eluding Indiana's Geno Johnson, is second in the Big Ten in rushing.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio calls Javon Ringer "the truth." "In every respect," Dantonio said of his junior running back. "As a player, as a person, as a man of faith. Academically, he's an extremely hard worker. He carries himself just like you would want your son to carry himself. I can't say any more about Javon."

Having seen Javon play numerous times at CJ I was one who really wanted him at tOSU. That stuff usually works itself out and Javon has had a great career at MSU, except for the injuries. Imagine what he'd have done with Tressel instead of John L. Smith?!

C-J's Ringer wanted to go to Ohio State

Admission standards sent the running back to Michigan State, where is thriving with the Spartans.

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State's defense may have a hard time getting its hands on Michigan State running back Javon Ringer on Saturday. But if coach Jim Tressel had his way, the Buckeyes wouldn't have let Ringer slip through their grasp in the first place.
The former Chaminade-Julienne star said Tuesday he wanted to play for his home-state team. But OSU's admission standards have risen since the late 1990s, placing some limits on the football program's ability to bring in academically borderline players, and ex-C-J coach Jim Place said Tressel couldn't get Ringer in school.

Since I haven't lived in Ohio since 1999, I never got to hear/read the back story to this kid. I have to admit that it's rather saddening to me. I feel it's a shame when a home-state kid wants to play for tOSU, he has the talent, but it just can't get done.

Just interesting to think about.

Michigan State's Javon Ringer, a Dayton native, averages 133.1 rushing yards, second best in the Big Ten.

Considering the circumstances, rarely has an athlete been more aptly named than Michigan State running back Javon Ringer going into today's game against No. 1 Ohio State. OSU fans might consider him to be a ringer for the Spartans.
A Dayton native, his first desire three years ago was to play for the Buckeyes. An academic snafu caused OSU to drop the pursuit, despite his obvious talent. Once the problem was straightened out, he was headed to Michigan State.
"You want him on your football team," OSU defensive backs coach Paul Haynes said.
He knows, because he was still on the Michigan State staff when Ringer was signed, and he remembers the elation. It has been borne out this season, Ringer averaging 133.1 yards, second to Michigan's Mike Hart (154.0) in the Big Ten.

Ringer, C-J grad, has overcome injuries to become one of Big Ten's best backs
He will look to lead MSU in rushing for 4th straight year.

Mark Dantonio has heard that running back Javon Ringer is capable of kicking an apple off the top of someone's head without harming a hair.

And while the Michigan State coach isn't eager to volunteer for that stunt, he has seen sufficient evidence to believe Ringer is nimble enough to do it.

"I've never seen a guy, as long as I've coached, who could lay flat on his back and can come up into a standing position in one move," Dantonio said. "People usually have to put their hand down to come up. But he can spring up in one movement. It's impressive."

Ringer also has been using that freakish athleticism to perform some eye-popping feats on the football field ? despite having to overcome two serious knee operations along the way.

The 5-foot-9, 200-pound senior out of Chaminade-Julienne High School finished with 1,447 rushing yards last year, becoming the first Spartan to top 1,000 since T.J. Duckett in 2001. Ringer, who's been timed in the 40-yard dash in the 4.3-second range and can squat more than 600 pounds, also is the first player to lead MSU in rushing three straight years since Sedrick Irvin in 1996-98.

"Each time (after surgery), I've been blessed to come back stronger, faster and better than what I was," said Ringer, who also had a minor procedure on his shoulder last spring. "I still don't have any soreness or stiffness in my knees. I don't hesitate to cut on them. It feels good."

Javon Ringer, Michigan State: Running back carries the load

Saturday, September 20, 2008 3:06 AM
http://www.dispatch.com/gameday
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio didn't realize just how many carries Javon Ringer was getting last week.
All he knew was that no other option was remotely as appealing.
So in the driving rain in Spartan Stadium, Ringer carried 43 times for 282 yards in a 17-0 victory over Florida Atlantic.
"For him, that was not too much," Dantonio said. "The rain was coming down so hard and he'd had no fumbles, and we didn't want to risk having another running back handle the ball."
Ringer's performance earned him Big Ten offensive player of the week honors for the second straight week.
Heading into a game today against Notre Dame, the senior leads the nation with 104 carries and nine touchdowns. He's third nationally with 498 rushing yards.
"He's an extremely powerful running back," Dantonio said, "and he's got the intangibles with his vision and toughness and attention to detail."

I'm worried about Javon. I know he's tough, but he's showing some signs of wear, and he hasn't even gotten to the B10 portion of the schedule.

Unless a backup RB emerges, or the passing game matures to carry more of the load, I just don't know how he can last the season at this pace.

...somebody tell me I'm wrong, here.
