Javon Ringer (Former RB Michigan St.)

he didnt meet the standards set forth for admissions...

javons a great back and i look forward to an interesting game. enjoy the site.

Or is it possible that OSU just wouldn't wait for him to retake tests or whatever the problem was and decided they had enough scat backs with Wells commit?

I'm not here to stir the pot, I (and many other spartans) just think that is a BS excuse.

I haven't watched and awful lot of MSU thus far this season. What types of running plays have most of his carries been this year?

In years past, it seems like most of them are pitches, toss sweeps, stretch plays, etc....slow developing plays that let him really use his vision and patience to pick and hit a hole. Is that a fair assessment or is he being used on more quick hitters up the middle this season with Jehuu' Caulcrick moved on?

almost everything is between the tackles, and if it's clogged up he'll bounce outside. Our variety is either hitting the 1 or 3 hole.

We were pitching out more but Iowa was killing us with negative yard carries when we did, and that pretty much got scrapped except for one pitch out to the right side (the good side of our OL) vs NU.

Keep in mind that during the recruiting of Ringer and M. Wells, we were still trying to clean up our image from the tail end of the Cooper years and the MoC situation. There was no way that we would take a chance on anyone with academic questions that year. If the Ringer was part of the class of 05 or 06, he would probably be in Scarlet and Grey.

My time line may be off a bit but I believe that it was also the year that two players were dismissed from the team (gilford and irrazary). That could have also been part of the reasoning behind not taking a chance on a young man with questions about his academic standing.

Why do MSU fans even care. You now have one of the best runningbacks in the history of the program due to OSU taking a pass.

Goofy everything you said seems to be echoed by the dispatch today.

The Columbus Dispatch - Local/State

"An interesting story is Javon Ringer of Dayton Chaminade-Julienne. Ringer rushed for 1,776 yards and 20 touchdowns in seven games before suffering a torn knee ligament.

OSU coaches have let Ringer know they want him but have not offered a scholarship. Academic concerns appear to be the holdup.

Apparently, Ringer may fall in the gray area between being an NCAA qualifier but not meeting Ohio State’s increasingly high standards.

Chaminade-Julienne coach Jim Place said Ringer wants to play for Ohio State but is on the verge of moving on to another choice, perhaps Michigan State.

"Our lines are still open (to Ohio State)," Place said. "We’re just trying to work through the things that need to be done." "
i am not the most qualified person to say this but heres some good posts to look at.

#151-86 on ringers weekly phone call from jt
#174-86 again

well step out of the matrix and think about what I could have written if I wanted to be inflammatory.

I have a lot of respect for you guys and OSU is by far my second favorite big ten team.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I've watched essentially all of your games and our games this season and ever since Tressel has been hired.
Let me first apologize for making you watch this offense.

But if you weren't trying to stir the pot, you would've dropped it. The answers were pretty clear....he was a grades casualty that we would love to have in S&G. I personally appreciate every fantasy point he gets me. But he wasn't allowed in to OSU, despite Tressel's best efforts.

And the year before, the 03 class had been a disaster of attrition...

Mo Wells didn't get Javon's test score flagged.

Wonderful. Fans can think whatever they please, but it's not very convincing if it's little more than conjecture
it's just odd because Ringer is and has proven to be such an ultra high character kid and we haven't heard one peep of him having any academic struggles
Javon is a great kid, but he absolutely had his struggles in high school.
Ringer was considerably larger than Mo Wells, so that weak speculation falls on its face immediately.

Or you could just listen to (or argue with) Ringer himself:

Michigan State running back had designs on OSU

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio calls Javon Ringer "the truth." "In every respect," Dantonio said of his junior running back. "As a player, as a person, as a man of faith. Academically, he's an extremely hard worker. He carries himself just like you would want your son to carry himself. I can't say any more about Javon."
Except this:
The truth is, Ringer's dream was to play for Ohio State, not against it, as he will Saturday in Ohio Stadium.
"They wanted me," he said this week. "I wanted to go there, also. Things just didn't work out."
"The whole thing was with me and my ACT," Ringer said.
He was not specific about the problem during a teleconference this week, but he told The Detroit News last year that a discrepancy in his test scores raised questions.
"I got like a 16 on it the first time. Then I took it again and I got a 21," Ringer said. "(Officials) challenged it. They said I had similar answers to somebody sitting around me. . . . When I took it again, I didn't get a 21."
Ringer waited on Ohio State until mid-December of his senior year before committing to Michigan State.
"Time was kind of running out. I couldn't keep waiting," he said. "I feel like everything worked out for the best."
Not sure what's debatable about that, unless you think he's lying.

MSU wins vs theM since 1990

in AA
1990

in East Lansing

93, 95, 99, 01

5 up 12 down, 6 straight L's, and we have to live right next to the expletives

1993 - Entered the game 9-0-1 against a 4-loss UM team - lost 28-0
1995 - Entered the game 11-0. Gave up 313 yards to Tim Biakabutuka. Lost 31-23
1996 - Entered the game 10-0. Led 9-0 at the half. Lost 13-9.
1997 - Entered the game with one loss and a chance to ruin UM's MNC hopes. Choked on it AND secured Charles Woodson a Heisman. Lost 20-14

OSU fans know pain against them. Might not be a different pain, but it hurts just as much.

I guess, big picture, we both hate the stupid arrogant bastards, so all of this is kind of a silly debate.

Thank you for making my point, OSU was slow playing him.
No, Ringer just flat out refuted your point that they didn't really want him. So again, is he lying?

NONE of what he said there refuted the fact that OSU could not get Ringer through admissions, even with Tressel's personal pleadings (which he does in isolated cases with great success).

It's too bad that his test score got flagged for alleged cheating (may have been a false positive, or the other person doing the copying), but it was a major speedbump in his recruitment and academic qualifications with regard to a stricter OSU policy those years.

i dont think you realize. osu wanted him, bad. he didnt meet academic standards for the university. he wasnt the first or the last that exceeded ncaa standards and qualified that jt has passed on...

granted im not gonna say we havent had guys who are below the typical standards that weve taken...

anything below the standard is usually a case by case basis... this case was rejected.

I'm also thinking that this Spartan is an OK poster, he's been around before without causing trouble.

He's much closer to somebody like HailToTSUN than a guy like txp135.

And no, I'm not completely vouching for him. I want to see how he'll react to the backhanded compliment of being compared to a Vulvarine poster. :tongue2:
