EAST LANSING -- Javon Ringer, a top-rated running back from Dayton, Ohio, made an oral commitment to Michigan State.
Ringer also received offers from Southern California, Florida, Tennessee and Iowa.
He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and needed surgery Nov. 3.
Ringer, who is 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, rushed for 6,136 yards and scored 78 touchdowns in 33 games during his career at Chaminade-Julienne High School. He is ranked as the nation's 17th-best running back by recruiting service Rivals.com.
Ohio State recruited him but hasn't made a scholarship offer.
"When I met the (MSU) players and coaches, I liked them and they liked me," Ringer, who made an official visit to MSU last weekend, told the Dayton Daily News. "I was very impressed. It felt like it would be a very good fit for me. The coaches told me if my knee gets better, I could maybe start or play a lot next season."
Michigan State also received an oral commitment from Kendell Davis, a 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back / running back from Alliance, Ohio. Davis selected MSU over West Virginia and Kansas.
The Spartans have received 15 early commitments. They have a total of 28 scholarships available. The official signing day is Feb. 2.
