James Bond 23: Skyfall

What's next a "white Shaft"?

Talk about an animated short film.

Elba would make a great Bond. People complained about Craig when he was hired because of his eye and hair color. The James Bond character transcends those things. The problem with Elba is that he's too well-known and has already been in other memorable roles. The actor they usually hire is a bit more of a blank slate and that guy essentially "becomes" Bond. I don't think people would see Elba strictly as "Bond". People would see him as a great actor who happens to be playing the character.

That of course speaks to the reasons why Craig would want out, too. I imagine he doesn't want the Bond character to overshadow the rest of his career. That's a shame, because I think he's a great Bond, my second-favorite behind Connery.

I'm surprised that Henry Cavill was one of the 4 screen tests when Craig won the role, but he was too young. I think he would be a good fit now if he isn't too big after being Superman next year. IIRC Brosnan was up for the part when Dalton got it and then ended up getting it anyway later.

I hope Craig finishes his contract before they need to find a new Bond.

Saw it last night. Best Bond film overall that I've seen. I like Craig better than any of the others but liked some of the homage to the old Connery films. They somehow pulled that off respectfully and without being too campy.

Finally got to the theater to see Skyfall this afternoon. I'd have to watch it more than once to get a better handle on where I'd rank it among Bond films, but it's definitely toward the top end.

I like that the villain was truly weird and maniacal this time rather than being just another anonymous dick businessman in a suit that it seems they've had in many of the recent films. They pulled it off without making it too cartoonish too - a tough balance to strike. Bardem was superb

Exactly what I was worried about. I saw the trailer and said "holy shit, looks like an intense movie" but at no point did I relate Bond to it. It's a tricky balance. Haven't seen the movie, but I'm glad they could introduce a different kind of villain.

I am surprised to hear Craig wants out. The Bond 24 thread article has him as ready to go. He is definitely number 2 in my book to Connery.

Re: "I've been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it,? the National Enquirer quoted Craig.

and

?But they won?t let me go, and I?ve agreed to do a couple more, but let?s see how this one does, because business is business and if the [bleep] goes down, I?ve got a contract that somebody will be happy to wipe their ass with.?

Just sayin': maybe he really wants out: however, there could be a hidden agenda here too:

a. just wants more publicity with people telling him how great he is in the role.

b. establishing some ground work to renegociate/extend his contract for more $$$.

c. if he they no longer want him when the contract is up (like Bronson), he can claim he really didn't want the part anyway.

From that link, best possible choices to replace Craig:

  1. Robert Pattinson
  2. Robert Downey Jr.
  3. Chris Hemsworth
  4. Ryan Gosling
  5. Brad Pitt
