My guess is that he was never the suspect, just connected to the case. Most likely by acquaintance to the suspect or presence in the general vicinity.

William Meggs, state attorney for the 2nd Judicial Circuit in Tallahassee, confirmed his office didn't receive an incident report from the Tallahassee Police Department until earlier Wednesday. Meggs, who was traveling, said he has only had the report read to him by an associate over the phone.

"We learned about the police report for the first time today," Meggs said. "I've had it read to me. I think the police department would have to tell you why I didn't learn about it for the first time until today."

The Dispatch summary this morning cited that the perp was estimated to be 5-9, 240.

Winston is 6-4, 215.

Hard to confuse the two.

I think Winston is not regarded as the likely perp. Possibly a witness. Would hate to see his name tarnished if this is the case.

The report describes the suspect as having a muscular build, with a weight of 240 pounds and a height between 5'9" and 5'11." Winston is listed at 6'4," but police reports are notoriously inexact with these sorts of things.

The kid is innocent until proven guilty and he very well might be just a witness. Gotta let the process play out

Most people can tell the difference between a 5-9 240-lb fireplug and a 6-4 215-lb (comparatively slender) athlete. Sorry you seem unable to do so without measuring instruments, but the rest of us aren't so limited.

It seems unlikely to me that, if Winston were indeed the suspect, the police would have spent the past 11 months without arresting him, charging him, or detaining him for detailed questioning.

You sound like those bwi freaks arguing that McQuery didn't see a rape in the shower because Sandusky's penis was probably too big. Give it up. Height and weight estimations are notoriously unreliable, especially when made by someone who has just been sexually assaulted.

I also am willing to let the facts come out before I draw a conclusion. But all of you that are hanging your hat on the fact that the victim may have given a height that does not match Winston's need to think about what you are saying. Look at it from what could be the victims point of view. You had something to drink. Maybe you have had to much to drink. At 1AM the most horrible thing that has happen in your young life is right now happening to you. Flash forward 3 hours to 4AM. Your upset, your tired and maybe you are still a little drunk. A police officer has just asked you "And how tall was the person that raped you?" and you give an answer. I hope all of us can see that it might be inaccurate. It could even be wildly inaccurate.

I agree we need to wait for all the facts before anyone condemns Winston. But the same should go for the victim too.
