No way on this earth is Bjork paying a $12 million buyout so he can hire an untested assistant. Diebler could make it to the sweet 16 and not get the job.

Hopefully this will land him a MAC level job, but IMO the success he is having now would prove disruptive if they kept him as an assistant. Nobody needs the players 2nd guessing the new HC.

He might if the top 3 choices say no. Something of that nature and if they go on a run and make the tournament. Win a game or two in the tournament there is likely to be strong pressure to hire him

Or do we venture out for a change of culture/style? Bring in someone that has HC experience and can implement a system.

Pros and cons to both. New AD better earn that money.

The risk of losing Holtmann was always that you lose his assistants as well. Jake has done a great job and a good run will leave him well-placed to land a good head coaching opportunity at a level where he can hone his skills. That said, I hope that there is an AD somewhere looking for a Jake Diebler.

We all know the phrase, "...but will the dog hunt?" Part of what Diebler is showing is that these dogs WILL hunt for Diebler, when they wouldn't for Holtmann.

One hopes Diebler gets in the right situation and proves himself for three or four years, because he bleeds Ohio State through and through and possibly could coach successfully for an entire career if the stars lined up.

I'm open to any possibility that leads to greater success, if that means hiring Diebler permanently, then so be it. As we saw with Chris Holtmann, hiring someone coming off some success elsewhere doesn't necessarily translate into success at OSU.

We've seen what appears to be improved play with Diebler coaching to this point. I feel that many of the narrow losses in recent years would have been wins with better coaching. The players were good enough to win a lot more games in the B1G. To really be in the conversation, Diebler will have to get this team to make the tournament and, if the draw is decent, win a couple games. I can see a scenario where OSU gets to the play-in at Dayton and gets to the second weekend of the tournament. Let's see how things play out and go from there.

This has been a thing for most of the last decade going back to the Matta days. Last good post player we had is, who? Sullinger? I know scoring down low is de-emphasized in today's basketball world, but would be nice to have a post presence again.

And sadly the 2024 class from Ohio was solid and almost all were post players....Cinci got a good one with Tyler McKinley. Purdue pulled a kid from Sycamore whose 6'10 that I know nothing about other than Purdue has done a fantastic job with their post guys so if he was good enough for them he was good enough for us.
