Jake Diebler (Head Coach)

Believe both Diebler boys have been raised right. Jon, after canning six 3's, was very humble speaking to announcers after a Buckeye win. Jake, after one of best wins in tOSU history, was just as humble, deflecting praise to his players. Personally, I like his use of substitutions during the game, and it quite clearly is working better than previously. Losing Holtmann was clearly a solidifying event for tOSU team, and appears to have brought them closer together - the Us against the World impact. I realize that he's 'interviewing' for consideration to be the Buckeye HC, and from what I've seen, or heard, that even if not selected, there'll be a push to keep him on as top assistant. Do not believe a school such as tOSU can afford to hire someone so green, call it inexperienced, without HC experience, but certainly want to keep him on our sideline to grow into the job.

Seems to be some differences with Diebler stepping in & the freshmen playing more. Middleton played a total of 10 minutes combined the last 3 games Holtmann coached; however, he has played 15+ in all 4 Diebler-led games. Royal had 10+ minutes vs power conference opponents in only 4 games with CH, and has equaled that with 4 games under Diebler. Chatman had only logged 12 minutes vs power conference opponents under CH and already has 20 under Diebler. I see part of the strategy is to get the freshmen more chances, and I like it.

Freshmen and fresh legs. Totally helping down the stretch of close games. Also seems to be letting them play harder on Defense so they can rest and go back in again. Pushing the right buttons but absolutely has to win tomorrow.

I'm coming around to keeping Diebler long term.
This is a double edge sword with me. He has done fantastic as an interim. But how is he running his own program? He has the Holt support staff there. How does he do with being the HC full time? The players seem to be receptive to his style. Can he keep that momentum with the program?

Or do we venture out for a change of culture/style? Bring in someone that has HC experience and can implement a system.

Pros and cons to both. New AD better earn that money.

He makes in game adjustments and gets them to play D so that's a plus. But yeah how many of the assistants would stick around under Diebler and how many he would actually want to stick around is a whole another quest. As is how he would recruit as the head man.
