JabriLLL "Ghost" Peppers (New England Patriots)

After a conversation on scout, I thought I'd repost his numbers here
OSU - 7 car 29 yds 4.1 ypc 0 td 2 rec 29 yds 0 td (Houma had 4.0 ypc, D.Smith went 3 rec 31 yds)
PSU - 5 car 19 yds 3.8 ypc 0 td 0 rec ......................
IND - 0 car ................................... 3 rec 16 yds 0 td (Houma had 2 rec 20 yds)
RUT - 2 car 08 yds 4.0 ypc 1 td 1 rec 03 yds 0 td
MIN - 4 car 16 yds 4.0 ypc 1 td 0 rec ...................... (Chesson ran 1 for 20 yds)
MSU - 0 car ............................... 0 rec ......................
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total - 18 car 72 yds 2 td 6 rec 48 yds
Total - 18 car 72 yds 2 td 6 rec 48 yds
Per Gm 3 car 12 yds 0.3 td 1 rec 8 yds 0 td

Jabrill is a great talent, especially defensively, and he transforms a woefully mediocre group of mid-level B1G WRs and RBs, but his production simply doesn't match the hype at this point.

I think a lot of the hype surrounding him is due to his being the only thing approaching an electric athlete those idiots have had in the program since.... sheesh.. Woodson?

I mean... they've had some decent players since Chuckie... but.. I can't think of any "make you miss" kind of guys on their roster in over a decade.

There was that guy with dreads who kept losing his shoes... he didn't fair as well against us. But I guess he had some highlights against the rest of the conference.

Post Carr era I can only think of a few scUM players I've seen that I thought were OSU caliber/elite:

Peppers who is clearly the most athletic guy they've had up there in nearly a decade
Jake Ryan before he blew out his knee
Mike ? Martin the DL. He was good
Frank Clark (on the field, evaluation of his playing talent only)
That one corner they have this year maybe (no idea of his name)

I always saw Detard as a gutless little bitch who was clearly very fast but mostly just a product of RR's offense. I mean, what position would he have ever played at OSU?

I'm sure Jwins or others who follow them more closely than I do could come up with a few more but those are the ones who I have seen stand out

Even on defense he is only an elite athlete and not an elite football player. In pass coverage he routinely gets beat and relies on interfering with the receiver to break up the play (often called, but just as often not). In run support, he has a tendency to run himself out of the play (see JT TD run in the Game). Also while very athletic he is not really very big and has trouble hold his ground when blocked.

The one thing he seems to excel on defense is recognizing a WR screen, slipping the block of the other WR and blowing up that play. Michigan had to play him at nickleback because he was a liability at safety or cornerback. The media's selection of Peppers to the 1st team all Big Ten defense was a joke and a statement on the lack of knowledge of the game they cover.

All of this is not to say he could not yet become an elite player as his athletic ability is off the charts. But he not close to being there yet.

The most un-worthy hype train in CFB steams on unabated. Courtesy of mgoblog:

CB/S/KR/PR/WR/RB/NICKEL Jabrill Peppers, So.* [Last time: 1]

Began the year as a one-man screen destroyer and ended it as the top option at a half-dozen spots. M may work him in as a RB more; still assume his primary duties will be on defense, where a little bit of development in coverage will make him a scary all-purpose demon. Adding a half dozen touchdowns of all varieties could propel him to NYC.

Looks like they're kicking off his September Heisman campaign in earnest. :roll1:

Brandon Graham was a beast during the dickrod years, probably the only player on those defenses, hell the whole team, that would sniff the field at tOSU. I'd take him over Frank Clark in a heartbeat, who was a good player, but nothing special, IMO.

Going back to the end of the Carr-era, Manningham was a very good receiver who would have played here. They had a couple of good DL in 05-06 in Woodley and Branch who would have been nice to have. David Harris was a solid LB. And of course, good-old Bikey was a helluva RB, but I don't know that I'd take him over Pittman, and certainly not Beanie.

I'll throw a wildcard out there...Devin Gardner. Yep, good old 98. Yeah, he was an absolute cluster-fuck up north, but his talent shined through at times...especially against us. I think more than anything he was the victim of some absolutely awful coaching, a horrific OL and a sludgefart offense. Now, I don't think he sees the field over Braxton, but it would have been interesting to see what Herman/Meyer could have wrung out of him if given the chance.

But, yeah, in a decade, I can think of a handful of players of their's that I'd like to have seen in S&G. In a rivalry, that's pathetic.
