JabriLLL "Ghost" Peppers (New England Patriots)

He reminds me of Eric Metcalf from back in the day. Is he a WR? Not really. A slot? No..... A RB? Nope....... A CB? Eh..... Safety? No run support. KR/PR? I suppose that's where he's the most dangerous...... He's ok.... maybe even kinda good at a couple of positions, but not really great at anything. Make no mistake, he's very athletic, but just can't seem to find his niche (assuming he has one).

It's spreading....

Don't be surprised to see Jabrill Peppers at LB this fall
Yes, Jabrill Peppers is really practicing at linebacker this week.

Much of the focus of Michigan's spring practice has been the team's location (Florida). But if you look at what's happening on the field while the Wolverines are down south, you'll notice how new defensive coordinator Don Brown is already tweaking the Wolverines' defense.

One of those changes involves having Peppers, a defensive back, play at the SAM linebacker spot.

“I just think we’ve got to give this guy a bunch of jobs,” Brown said after practice Tuesday via TheWolverine.com. “He’s a dynamic athlete, so we’ll keep him around the line of scrimmage and let him do a bunch of stuff whether it’s cover, whether it’s in certain personnel groups play linebacker-type stuff. Our SAM is kind of a hybrid. Last year’s SAM had seven and a half sacks and 17 tackles for loss, and he’s out covering slots."

Brown's defense at Boston College was No. 1 in 2015. He moved to the Wolverines after former Michigan DC D.J. Durkin became Maryland's head coach.

Peppers was a five-star recruit in the class of 2013 and the No. 3 overall player in the country according to Rivals. After struggling through an injury-plagued freshman season, he had 45 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss in 2015 as Michigan's defense was the No. 4 defense in the country. Brown said he wants to move Peppers all over the field; it wouldn't be too crazy to see him play linebacker, safety and cornerback during the same game.

Michigan's Jabrill Peppers (5) returns a punt in the first half of an NCAA college football game …
“That’s the beauty of it,” Brown said. “We had a package in today when he’s in technically as a linebacker. You may think you’re getting one alignment but we can do completely different stuff, because who said he has to be there playing that position? Today he was - two days he may not. That’s how we roll.

“He’s sharp. He’s fun to work with. He’s got juice. I like guys like that. It gest you excited going to work every day.”

a smart move given his athleticism, physicality against the run and struggles in coverage.

As for the formation flexibility boast, you still need two linebackers and it's debatable if they have any right now (not counting him ). Even if he can become a good hybrid lb outside, he's not going to be confused with true cover guys when he slides back. He is no eli Apple or Conley in man . if he proves to be a good LB, you've still traded a linebacker for the safety that fills the void left by peppers. It's not as bad as trading a DL for a safety like durkin did, but it's not ideal for stuffing run obsessed programs like OSU and msu.

Yep. Definitely a linebacker.

JTB gave a nice little shake, but that was no Braxton Miller "circle button" spin move. So either Peppers is a lot less athletic than his reputation, or he quit on that play. Probably both.
Or he's the same incredible athlete with extremely raw ball skills that get ignored due to the former. Not unlike his hype vs production on O.

I think this may be a much better fit for his skillset. It will be interesting to see if he's lined up near Bush Jr, who is undersized himself.

I see this as emulating what we evolved with Shazier, and culminated with Lee. And will presumably see more of going forward... Worley (another DB convert) being the obvious one but can't sleep on Booker, Hilliard, Conner, Baker... god we're loaded.
It seems like a rare savvy move on their part... benefit from his athleticism and strength against run while hiding his coverage a bit. Not a lot of conference teams that have a #3 WR good enough to expose him...

Frankly, he didn't face anyone from week 2-11 who could expose that weakness. The Utah slot WR ate him alive and he struggled in various ways against OSU.

Samuel, Mack, McCall will be tough assignments. Fortunately for him, he'll probably turn pro before any film can be taken of Wolverines covering Tyjon Lindsey

Be careful there, you might catch chlamydia.
