Corrupted his teammates? Now that's a good one.

I read the article. Sounds like speculation. I won't believe that TP squeeled on anything until I hear it from people who know.

it is fact he recieved the envelopes and handed them out...Bobby D is the real issue here but come on....I dont hate TP but he is at the center of all this

Thats fair, I don't want to believe it myself.

But all the players (in any sport) know that expense money must go to OSU first, and OSU then reimburses it to the players directly. Travelling even short distances is commonly done and this is the way that expenses have been handled going back decades.

There is no claim of ignorance of procedure even possible.

What does the NCAA allow for travel expenses for an event like this?
For players, it is very similar to a standard business expense report without any provisions for entertainment or purchase of material. Mileage is at a standard rate and there is a per-diem.

so the actual infraction amount should be something like $200 - allowed amount?

Could this really be a major infraction for the institution?

Doubt it. Seems more misunderstanding then blatant rule breaking.

I may have misread something, but I think the event in question happened in June. I also may have misworded a few things but, it seems this came to light one way or another, through TP's quest to get into the supplemental draft.

Every player in every sport is briefed on expense reimbursement procedures. Normally, when compliance approves a function, they will quickly reimburse the players for their expenses even if the charity or group takes awhile to reimburse OSU directly; which they are told they have to do.

The thing that I don't like is that the charity had compliance sign off as recently as 2010. At that time they would have had to acknowledge that no benefits could be supplied to the kids. The charity has an obligation to help protect the kids, but the kids know better too. TP certainly has gone to enough of these things that he definitely knew what procedure was.

No. Happened in February. As mentioned in this article.

This strikes me as being a pretty complicated set of circumstances to expect 20-year-old, unsophisticated kids to be able to figure out. Charity, travel reimbursement as opposed to "payment," etc. NCAA needs to get its head out its ass and recognize that spending time on "enforcing" this kind of [Mark May] is ridiculously expensive and wasteful.

Honestly, as someone who couldn't even get 40-year-old professionals to figure out they were not supposed to pile dirty dishes in the office sink but rather put them into the dishwasher, I think those who are taking a harsh outlook toward these guys are being unreasonable.

I've had to deal with mileage reimbursements, per diem, etc, and it seems like no matter how many times I do it I barely get any closer to understanding our processes. I can't imagine how much more difficult this sort of thing must be for college kids that just want to go to parties and find girls.

I have a 21-year-old brother-in-law that I would view as mature and intelligent and responsible. But when it came to getting him to switch off of my cell phone plan you would have thought I asked him to engineer a rocket from paperclips and rubberbands. Kids, especially these days, just don't know how to do shit.

How freaking hard is it to understand that if you get an envelope with cash in it it's not allowed? I could give a rats ass about how difficult it is to understand and fill out an expense report. Hell, Mark Titus documented and made fun of the process in his blog when he was on the team.

The bottom line is that you don't accept an envelope with cash in it. There is no difficulty in understanding that fact. The players need to be accountable for their actions and justifying these actions or making excuses for them is rubbish. Period.
