It Looks Like I was Right (Hurricane Katrina Merged)

175 mph winds, and one very nasty radar picture. Here's hoping you're already over 100 miles away.

edit - deleted radar picture, since the link was always current

This is all over the news right now:

New Orleans Mayor Issues Evacuation

NEW ORLEANS - Mayor Ray Nagin ordered an immediate mandatory evacuation Sunday for all of New Orleans, a city of 485,000 people, as Hurricane Katrina bore down with 160 mph wind. Ten emergency shelters were set up, including the Superdome.
May God watch over you and your family Nola.

My wife, Kids, in-laws and the pets have evacuated. I have to gather the last of the patio furniture tomorrow and trim a few branches a little too close to the house. After that it will be wait and see.

The mayor has ordered a mandatory evacuation. Nola, I hope you are already on your way out of the area to meet up with your family in a safe place. All those other things mean nothing. Your family's safety, including you, is what is most important.

New Orleans in BIG trouble!

Hopefully it doesn't hit directly but things don't look good. Any of you who have family down there, I wish them the best.

I watched a show on TLC a few years ago about a Category 5 hitting New Orleans and they talked about there being flood waters in the city for MONTHS b/c the pumps would be underwater.

They also talked about poisonous snakes and crocodiles being flooded into the city from the bayous and Mississippi River Deltas flooding into the city.

Scary stuff.

Hope New Orleans doesn't look like Hiroshima after this. :ohwell:

you may be right... but I thought he was very close to or right in New Orleans... ala NOLA.. New Orleans LA (Louisiana)...

New Orleans is only 5 ft above sea level.. which is why it's so precarious... and if the hurricane comes right up the Miss delta just a few miles.. there's N.O. and Jackson Square... and Cafe De Munds -- the bestest breakfast place on the planet...

I heard some scary projections saying some 40,000-60,000 lives could be lost..
I heard the same #'s but find it hard to believe if a lot of the citizens heeded the evacuation warnings.

They mentioned not even having enough body bags if the fatality levels would be that high. Hard to believe it would be even close to that.
