Is it OK to be a fan of teams from different schools?

tOSU. tOSU. tOSU.

I root for the Buckeyes in sports I don't even know the rules to. Hell, I have trouble rooting for the Bengals...not because they've sucked for fifteen years, but because they draft too many tsun players. It sickens me. I root for NFL teams based on how many Buckeyes are on the roster.

I root for tOSU over any other team in head to head competition. That said, I will root for UVA against anyone but Ohio State, because I got my JD from there. I will also root for my undergrad, Columbia, against anyone but Ohio State.

That statement can't be completely true, since UVA could play Columbia.

I say once more.... if your mascot is a wolverine... what the [censored] is up with the rake painted on your helmet?

Fritz Crisler designed the helmet so that quarterbacks could easily identify their receivers downfield.

Clearly they forgot to mention that to Tate Forcier..

pick a school and stick with 'em

P.S. if is perfectly normal and acceptable to LOATHE more than one school though.
but for simplicities sake, you should hate no more than 600 other teams at any one time.

I only truly hate one te...Fuck Michigan. I couldn't even type the whole senten...FUCK MICHIGAN

I never went there and I don't honestly know where the school is located, but at the moment I'm one of Fairfield's biggest fans since they are playing Siena and that ugly fuck who did nothing but flop around all game last year against Ohio State :pissed:

Let's see

1-In my book, you are a-or should be-a fan of The Ohio State University first and foremost. You will at least take a glance at the women's synchronized swimming results if the Buckeyed are involves. If you are from Ohio-or any other state and a fan of any other team, you cannot do the "I'm a Buckeye fan for football, but UNC/Duke/UK is my hoops school" thing-no way. That ought to be a man law.

2-Given point #1, yes, it perfectly acceptable to have a secondary team to root for and follow in different sports. I'm a big Xavier fan for hoops, but the Buckeyes come first-I was highly enraged until Ron Lewis hit his shot in the 2nd round 4 years ago. I also like Nebraska for football-I had/have lots of relatives out there.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately, hadn't seen this thread until now. I've struggled with my "fandom" recently. Since I have not lived on Ohio for over 10 years, and more importantly, because I attend a University in Georgia, I have wondered about being a "fan" of Ohio State athletics.

My personal feelings are that the Woody Hayes, Jim Tressel, hard work, and being humble are what I believe in. I think this is encompassed in the Ohio State football program, and that is why I cheer for them. The players at Ohio State are there for a reason. If it were financially, realistically possible, I too would be at Ohio State for a reason. There is not a lot I would not do to be able to say I graduated from that school. That's how much it means to me, just being from Ohio. Unfortunately, my life path has not yet lead me to attending Ohio State, the University of my dreams. But that's ok, because every autumn Saturday I am again a Buckeye.

I am a student at Kennesaw State University, so I will always cheer the Owls because they are my fellow students and friends. Because this is my school, I will show my support for them first in all sports. But I will always and forever be a Buckeye. Because that's where I'm from. I know where I came from.

And we don't have a football program yet. :sneaky:

My back gets turned on the ex relative, not OSU.

I have more respect for a fan of a team I hate than one of those sumbitches that change sides.

Thats why I hated Jag fans for so long when I first moved down here. I can't tell you how many times I heard the "well when we lived in northern city x we were team x fans but now we're here and we're Jag fans" bull[censored].

[censored] that. You're in for a penny your ass is in for a pound. I've been a Reds fan for nearly 40 [censored]ing years now, the first 10 they were good and I was too young to enjoy it. They have been good for about 2 of the last 30. What am I gonna do go down to foot locker and buy a bunch of Yankee [censored]? [censored]ing might as well grab some USC and Da U gear while you are at it, that's how their fanbase rolls.
Ok-theoretical question for you-or anyone else on the board. How do expansion teams fit in for pro fandom? I hate hockey and could care less about the Blue Jackets, but is it cool for an NHL fan in Columbus to switch allegiances to the Blue Jackets b/c they are local? I don't know.
I do have a buddy from East Texas who roots for the Titans b/c they used to be the Oilers, and still roots for them even though the Texans are now in Houston-and says that isn't unusual in his area.

Gotta go with Jake here, liking OSU football and Duke basketball reeks of bandwagon[censored]dom.

Does it?

It's my fault that the teams I root far are successful?

If I had said I'm an Ohio State football fan and a Virginia Commonwealth basketball fan would you have made the same statement?

Seriously, though...how does that even remotely suggest being a bandwagon fan...

The issue is splitting your primary fandom by sport, not necessarily being a Duke hoops fan(although personally I think that presents a whole nother' set of problems). If you would root for Duke over the Buckeyes in hoops, yes, that is wrong.
