Iowa QB Drew Tate (official thread)

I really cannot stand the guy, but I have to say that this specific case sucks for Tate. It seems stupid, but the NCAA has to have black and white rules because there is always going to be the booster-type who are reading every detail to see how much they can get away with.

Does the NCAA have any kind of rules-interpretation committee set up to hear cases like this and decide if it's exusable or not? If they do, I cannot imagine them ruling against Tater. Seems to me this committee could have helped out in Jeremy Bloom's case too.

From SI's "Ten Spot"

9. Iowa quarterback Drew Tate won a new Dodge worth $25,000 by making a hole in one at a golf tournament last Friday but couldn't accept the vehicle due to NCAA rules. In a related story, the wheels-less Tate announced plans to transfer to Ohio State.

Har-har-har-har-har. What a sense of humor, and original too. Now we can wait for the mailbag next week to see how many equally stupid OSU "fans" e-mail they guy with rants full of spelling errors.

The Iowa AD was going to let Tate keep the prize until he looked up and saw this:

"If he's taller than me, it's not by much," Drew Tate says of Brees, a native Texan like himself whom he met at a camp a few years back. "Everyone wants to look at the negatives, especially with a business like that. They just want to say, 'He's not tall enough. He's not good enough.' "

Checked out my first ever CFL game while spending a long weekend in Toronto, and guess who was starting at QB for the Calgary Stampeders? That is, until he left the game with a shoulder injury in the first quarter.
