Iowa Hawkeyes (Official Thread of The Under)

Maybe I smell another clever ploy: Wanting to hang them up and go fishing, Ferentz hires his son as OC knowing he's incompetent and he'll fail. When AD sees the offense is a giant fail and that the fans are gathering pitchforks and torches he calls Ferentz in and suggests he fire his son. Ferentz says no. AD fires him. Ferentz splits buyout money with son, buys a bass boat, grabs his pole and tackle box, and is last seen on a lake somewhere in Minnesota.

A lot of Iowa fans are convinced that he wants to retire, and if they fire him, he retires with a 42M golden parachute.

Another example of why you NEVER let a football coach start thinking that he's bigger than the program, the AD or even the university itself. You fire them well before you get to the shitty position that Iowa finds itself in.
Hmmmmm, something tells me that memo arrived in Columbus after Urbs arrived. Using this philosophy - which I think is the right one - better hope Ryan Day doesn't win three NCs in the next seven years.

Day doesn't strike me at all as the type to put himself ahead of the program and university, so I'm pretty comfortable with any success he has. Hell, he's our first football coach that I've actually liked since Earl. Urban obviously thought differently...until he was shown how mistaken he was.

That's an easy statement to make as an OSU fan. Iowa fans have only seen success with Ferentz, and being in a small town, the college HC is bigger than the program. We've seen it all the time in CFB(Switzer/OU, Osborne/NU, Alvarez/UW, Saban/UA, JoePa/Ped St, Bowden/FSU, Spurrier/UF, etc), these college towns have nothing else going for them other than the football team. And when they reach success, the HC is seen as a God who can do no wrong, and then he ties the hands of the AD and the school. All the coaches I've named went through scandals, and all survived them due to their win-loss record. Ferentz has run an above average program, in a talent lacking state for over 2 decades. He hasn't had a B1G title since '04 and hasn't won a NY6 bowl since '09. Yet he has 4 B1G COY titles, and multiple national COY titles(all in 2015). I'm sure the Iowa AD is worried that they will become Nebraska, a program floundering in being bad, living off of past accomplishments. Except Iowa doesn't even have near the level of past success as Corn. They will just be bad, and not many players are clamoring to go to Iowa City for college...

What are they gonna do, fire him??? He's practically daring them to.......
i was just referring to his body language... in that it reflects his lack on give-a-shit and a sense of responsibility. during his presser after the game he must've said something along the lines of "i've always done things this way, so there's no need for a change, so f*ck off..." a half a dozen times.

he is entirely closed to the idea that everything has changed since his early "success" and that he needs to also change in order to keep the program relevant. the vibe he's giving off is one of "i ain't changing shit... the world will eventually come back around".

The fact that he had a coach saying racially insensitive things to the players, and Ferentz didn't understand why people thought he should be fired. That should let you know how above the program he believes he is

You can't win COY in 2023 unless you have a bad year in 2022.

Yikes! That got dark really quickly.
I mean, I get that if this situation plays out, not many people would probably look for him. But I wouldn't think that anyone would want him dead. Especially not in Minnesota.
Or... don't some of those Minnesota lakes have legends of monsters? Maybe there'll be some weird documentary about The Legend of the Monster of Zurp Lake, or something. Get some locals to talk about some silly story they heard before, and one guy who says he told Ferentz to stay away from that lake at night. But the next morning his car is by the boat launch and he's still not back. Where'd he go?
