Iowa Hawkeyes (Official Thread of The Under)

Fans attending the annual football game between the University of Iowa and Iowa State on Sept. 13, 1986 found themselves receiving a surprise visit from David Lee Roth during the halftime show.

The game took place at Iowa's Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City and, as their intrastate rivals' marching band launched into his Eat 'Em and Smile solo hit "Yankee Rose," the former Van Halen singer came out onto the field. As the crowd roared, Roth waved his arms to conduct the band, ran around, performed some of his trademark kicks and rubbed his backside against a flag girl's. While on the sidelines, someone asked him if he wanted to be part of a pyramid with the cheerleaders, but it's unknown if he participated.
.
.
.
Iowa won the game 43-7. That night, Roth performed at the Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

A perfect start to the season for Iowa's chances at winning the B1G West. Wisconsin taking a dive vs PSU, and the Hawks get one seemingly challenging crossover game in the W column. While Iowa was the second favorite to UW to win the West in the preseason, I liked Iowa's odds and this week makes it clear they should actually be favored to win the division. The slightly easier schedule and history (moreso the past decade than the past year) were why the odds favored Wisconsin. Iowa is a darkhorse to win the B1G this season.

Chance to win the west? Certainly.

The B1G CG? Not a chance.

Iowa is ok. They are not nearly what many are calling them right now.

If they do happen to win the west, the east representative will pants them in Indi

Only issue I see for Iowa to win the west is schedule.

They have to play at Wisky and at Northwestern. One of their crossover games is Penn State (albeit at home so they'll probably win that).

That said, they are already a game up on Wisky, Minny and NU so yeah, you have to like their odds of winning the West.

I don't think they do so well in a neutral site dome vs the talent advantage of OSU or maybe Penn State.

2021 B1G COY: ?

Just sayin': Iowa is up to #5 in the AP and #6 in the Coaches polls, Ferentz is due for another B1G COY Award.
Ferentz might legitimately deserve B1G COY this season for the first time.

Iowa looks like a lock to win the West and play in the B1G title game.

There is absolutely no way they stick with any elite team, barring said elite team turning it over enough times, with the talent and play calling they roll out there on offense.

The defense is good, but will break when the offense hangs it out to dry against any good teams on their schedule, which might just be the B1GCG and bowl game, at this point.

On the flip side, the chances of Ohio State having the opportunity to absolutely annihilate a highly flawed “top three” team in Indianapolis to put an exclamation point on its playoff resume seem to be lining up nicely, as long as Ohio State continues to take care of business.

Yeah I agree. That's always the problem with defenses who rely very heavily on turnovers. Turnovers take a good amount of luck, and if your defense isn't solid enough to stop teams without forcing them to turn the ball over, what do you do? Iowa has 9 INTs in 2 games:yow2:! That's an insane stat, and not sustainable in any measure. Then add to the fact that Goodsen has only 1 100yd game, and Petras couldn't even make the OSU roster. He's a nice game manager, but if OSU gets up early if they were to play in the B1G championship, does he have the talent to win the game with his arm? Right now it doesn't look like it. Iowa is nice feel good story, but OSU hitting their stride looks like a literal run away freight train on offense, and the defense is improving weekly.

Also, Iowa outside Iowa City takes away their voodoo powers against Ohio State in Indy.
