Iowa 24, Penn St. 23 (Final)

There must be something wrong with PSU's QB, Clark.

Is it just me, or did the playcalling by PSU today resemble something you would do to protect a QB who was your weak link? Like a true freshman who was struggling or a Nick Sheridan? (sorry, Nick!)

I just couldn't help but get the feeling that as the game progressed, as D Williams kept taking snaps, and then even handing off or throwing the ball, that they were protecting Clark.
He never threw the ball very far downfield, that I can recall, and the one time he tried to throw that intermediate pass over the middle it was way high and picked off.

Just wondering if thereare still some lingering effects from the Buckeye game or if his throwing arm or had is injured at all.

Where was this dynamic Spread HD offense that was ripping people up all season? They seemed to move the ball prety well, but were a one-dimensional team today, which cost them being able to finish or sustain drives and put more points on the board.

Did you miss the beginning of the game before he was knocked silly?

Playing quality defenses.

Yes, but I think your looking for an excuse instead of the cause.

Or using their most effective quarterback.

2 things I will go to my grave not understanding.

1- They were backed up deep 2 times, and they tried to throw the ball 5 of 6 plays. Result: a fumble at the 1, and another punt from their own end zone. Stupidity at its mosr obvious.

2- I will never, NEVER, understand why coaches do this, but Joe, buddy, you earned this one. The TE Quarless is, by all accounts, a dirtbag, who has been suspended or benched for about half of his career. So, with everything on the line, with a possible NC trip and undefeated season up for grabs, what does Joe do? Bench Shuler, a decent 2nd generation player, reasonable blocker, and good guy who works hard, and puts Quarless in. Result? At LEAST 2-3 obvious missed blocks with no effort that got his QB killed, and 3 dropped 1st downs. AT LEAST. Oh, and Shuler actually CAUGHT the pass from Williams when he was in there.

Quarless is the biggest waste of size and raw potential in the history of Penn State football and a scumbag, but Joe put him in there anyway. Reap. What. You. Sow.

Yep, he lost a ton of respect playing Quarless all season.

A lot of PSU fans comparing this collapse to Minnesota '99, when they were also 9-0.

You'd think they'd steer clear of such comparisons, given what happened afterwards.

This SweaterVest drank his morning coffee while skimming through the State Penn fans' meltdowns on Rivals and Scout. I am so grateful to Iowa that they knocked these arrogant loudmouths out of the BCS title picture. I really hated them after all the trash-talking, provocation, climbing on cars and all the other shit they did in Columbus... not to mention their silly chants "We are... STATE PENN!" I rejoice in their misery!

Very sweet watching PSU go down. The neighbor guy up the street is a huge Penn st fan and had his daughter come to our door and say "13-6" before she said trick or treat on halloween. Nice right? He's going to have lots of fun for a while here in Hawkeye territory!

I think that some of you may be shocked to see what happens to us in the BCS this week as a result of this State Penn's loss. The early power ratings look like we could drop a few places due to this loss at its effect on our SOS. Wouldn't have been so bad if we had played and beat Iowa, I think.

We are not by any means a shoe-in for a BCS game. We may likely be depending on our old friend Dantonio now.

Is sos part of the equation anymore? I thought they took that out a few years ago. (I guess sos would matter in the computer polls maybe)

Where will move in the human polls? OK st and PSU lost. You'd think we'd move up one as OK st looked bad, but don't think we'll moved ahead of PSU.

You are correct in that a separate component was removed. However, strength of schedule is included implicitly in the formula. TSUN beating Minny also hurt us yesterday.

I am thinking we will be #10 in the AP, Coach's and Harris Polls and also #10 in the BCS unless Georgia jumps us then #11. Probably about where we will stay.

I think we most likely stay at #11 although there is some speculation we could be as high as #9. We'll see shortly!
