I wasn't sold on the pass interference call against PSU. It seemed to me that the safety went up to make a play on the ball and the Iowa receiver jumped into him. However, the "roughing" the punter call was much, much worse. That was absolute garbage. The 5 yard penalty is there for a reason, dipshits.

Watch again and notice how early the defender jumps for the ball. The contact was initiated much earlier than necessary.

If that was a normal jumpball, running stride for stride, and scirotto merely shields him off while trying to catch the ball, that would be fine.

But he flies over on an angle and brings the WR to a halt. his trajectory prevented the Iowa WR from even being able to jump, let alone catching the pass. It was just unlucky and poor timing on Scirotto's part.

If you're talking about the beginnng of the Iowa game, then YES, I missed him geting knocked silly. Why didn't they replace him like they did against us? And I don't cout D Wlliams as "replacing" him.

Why would I be looking for an excuse? Am I a PSU fan? Heck, I was rooting r Iowa. I just didn't understand their reasoning if Clark wasn' hurt. If he was knocked silly early in the game, then I understand all the plays with D Williams, and the not throwing downfield, but I still don't understand not putting the second string guy in there too.
Or using their most effective quarterback.

I can see they were trying to get even more out of their runnng game by D Williams taking the snap. He did throw the ball once, but only after abt a dozen straight runs. I wouldn't call what D Williams did against Iowa "playing QB", just like I wouldn't call what TG II did against OK St "playing QB".

I guess what you're saying is that Clark really sucks ass as a QB, and their coaching staff knows it, and is protecting him against good defenses.
I can see that to an extent, but if they were so damn smart, why would they have started Morelli for two full seasons?

He was a more effective weapon in the gun than Clark, imo... and I'm glad we didn't see a lot of that.

For awhile this season, we've wondered how PSU could keep Clark on the bench. Perhaps were starting to find out why, especially given Morelli's potential as a passer (albeit there's the football smarts thing that gets in the way).

No, I meant the OSU game. His struggles were apparent long before he was injured/dazed.

One thought would be that Clark can keep you a bit more honest on the edge when they motion DWill under center. There are many PSU fans wondering the same thing though, especially since Devlin has done a nice job in limited minutes.

Actually, other than the lack of holding calls (fuck, no Big Ten crews even know what that is) I thought the calls were pretty much all spot on. I thought the PI was right, I thought the punter call was right...even if it was only running into, there was clearly contact of some kind, and I believe they needed 5 yards or less, so it would have been a 1st anyway. This was a rare game that the refs I didn't think blew it for either side.

Ferentz was a moron for rushing the punter when a penalty of the same kind cost them a game earlier, and Penn State was stupid for the defense they played against a QB who couldn't crack the 3-deep at Boise State and a receiver who had been benched for half the season. If anyone complains about anything, the coaching should be it.

Yeah, I can definitely see why it was called. I never really thought it was a bad call, just wasn't sold on it. No DVR in the hotel, so I couldn't watch it again. Watching the replay, it looks like a good call to me.

It was 4th and more than 5 but less than 15 (I can't recall where it was in that range). The ref calling roughing the kicker vs. calling running into made the difference in terms of PSU getting a first down vs. having to punt again.

OK, so I was wrong...it happens once in a great while

Still, they got their chance and blew it...can't blame the refs, and Iowa won, so they can't blame the refs either. They could have kept the flag in the pocket on the punt, and they could have done so on the PI...didn't do it on either, so it evened out as far I am concerned. Iowa earned the game, and Penn State equally gave it away. The Hawkeyes played their best game of the year, and great teams don't blow 2-score leads to Seven-and-five-owa in the 4th quarter.

Sorry Penn State...2005, except now you get USC in a bowl game. I think they'll beat MSU...they've not lost to them at home since joining the Big Ten, even when they sucked those 5 years.

That's it in a nutshell. The only thing I would add was Orange Bowl representatives attended our game at Northwestern, so that's another potential option.

We win, Oregon State loses, we're in the BCS.

I know the Orange Bowl reps were at the game Saturday, but I didn't mention the Orange since they pick last. It would require the Fiesta picking Utah/Boise and the Sugar picking Pitt/Cincy in order for tOSU to drop to the Orange, so I just can't see that happening.
